G'day y'all - hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving this past week.

Here we are. A damn decade of 'the Championship 4'. With all the crazy ass memories to boot.

This all started back in 2014, ya know, that year where Ryan Newman nearly became Champion without winning any race:

And we are starting across the abyss into another season looming in the closing distance.

Wanted to start this thread so we can start discussing anything Nascar in the interim.

And today, the big news is there will be a brand new Toyota in Cup. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Camry XSE:

2023-nov27-toyota-camry-1-main-image.jpg

This alongside the new Ford Mustang:

2024-ford-mustang-dark-horse-1.jpg

I for one am already psyched to see that new Toyota being desperately unlucky in the hands of still my main dude, Truex.

Calendar for next year:

2024_n10.jpg

Any thoughts on that end ? I gots some.

And one last 'also' - This guy's comin' over:

The new Camry looks good because it looks like it should be a smooth brick, rather than a nice coupe turned into a brick.

The Camry (wouldn't the Supra be more appropriate?) and the Mustang look great.

Probably won't keep up much. Too much of the NASCAR format that I don't like, but at least those cars look good.

I was wondering about the future Chevy....interesting article with the long term outlook (The wing on the concept car may cause flashbacks to the first COT for some).
Agree the new cars look good, too bad they continue to serve the points system.

Not involving the 2024 races, but an ongoing stoey is the new TV contract for 2025 and beyond which may include streamed races with one or two partners in addition to Fox and NBC.

I’m praying to all Racing Gods that somehow Harvick will single-handedly carry Fox’s coverage. And that he’ll be in full Happy Harvick mode.

Saw the title of this thread, and I 100% agree.

The last NASCAR race I watched was the first race in this format.

I wonder what would've happened if Newman had completed his format-breaking run and actually won the title in 2014? How would NASCAR have reacted? What changes - if any - they would've made?

It's nearly a decade (spooky...) on, and I still can't believe that this format is a thing that actually exists in the real world.

V8 Supercars just started running the Camaro this year.

They haven't sold Camaros in Australian since 2020, and only sold a small number before then.

Maybe he thought they took a mid-season break every year? 20 years with a gap he never noticed?

Some big news today in the Nascar world. Here's some of 'em.

Shane van Gisbergen will run the full Xfinity Series next year with Kauling Racing in the new #97 ( !!! ) Chevy and will run 7 select Cup races - both 'Dega dates, Charlotte 600, Cota, The Glen, Las Vegas in Autumn and of course, Chicago.

While the #10 Stewart Haas Ford finally has a new driver in the BACONATOR 2023 Rookie of the Year Noah Gragson. It could've only been Haas where this dude would end up.

https://twitter.com/...057011543257299

AND JGS Racing in Xfinity have finalized their roster with full-time Chandler Smith in the #18, Sheldon Creed in the #81 and then JHN & Aric Almirola in the #20 and Ryan Truex, Taylor Gray, Joe Graf Jr and William Sawalich.

One of the key drivers involved with NASCAR's growth in the 1970s/80s era (popularly known for the 1979 Daytona crash finish, but also a force at the 500 many other years).

I caught the end of it and, not knowing about the weather alert and rescheduling, thought it was a qualifying race at first...

Not even to Daytona and already a weather issue lol.

Here's the highlights:

What can I say about the Clash at the Coliseum ... barely anything.

I'll say this though, the new Toyotas and Fords look great, especially the Toyotas - sleek and sharp as hell.

It's often a fool's errand to attempt racing in So Cal in the Winter. They got away with it the first year, almost the second, this time...no.

There's a reason Riverside jumped at the chance to dump their long-time January date, which I experienced first hand  :D

The Coliseum seats 77,500. Crowds get lost in the size, much like they did in other spacious stadiums (i.e. Cleveland Municipal Stadium; JFK in Philadelphia; San Diego Stadium, etc.)

It's an official duty of a Gibbs driver to be in a feud (or high profile incident like Edwards 2016) with Logano.

So is the 500 this weekend?

I just finished the Netflix series last night, amazingly I had no idea who was going to be champion going into the final round. I didn't realise NASCAR had fallen so far off my radar.

Having watched it, I don't mind the Playoffs format so much. I get it now. But I cannot and will not get behind Stages.

Yes, Peat, it's this Sunday. 7:30 pm UK time.

Cheers for sharing that. I think Full Speed is way better than F1's Drive to Survive. It's more serious and way less fluff. Nascar is already a bit silly in that American way anyways but still love it no matter what.

Yeah, and it highlights the basic fact that the Playoffs are here to stay and no way are the leadership letting go of it. It is what it is.

Anyways, if y'all want some Nascar stuff until this weekend, why not check this episode of the Dale Jr Download with Jeff Gordon and also the 4 horsemen of Nascar content - BFM, DannyB, Iceberg and Eric E on their latest one after qualy. Like listening to this stuff as I work.
