OK, so Max had it all his own way. But there was no shortage of spectacular races in 2023. Let me share my top three!

But have I missed something? Let me know your top three 2023 races, from any series.

1. Formula E in Cape Town. da Costa blows it, then recovers with an incredible penultimate lap move for the win.

2. 24 Hours of Le Mans. Just incredible action and drama amidst changeable conditions. An ouverture for a new era.

3. MotoGP at Philip Island. A tyre gamble goes well until the last lap, when it doesn't. A fairytale winner.

That Fe race in Cape Town was indeed excellent.

To be honest, I reckon my three are exactly as per the OP. I’ve tried to justify replacing one of them and I just can’t. Oh, actually maybe I’d replace Phillip Island with Thailand, that three way epic between Martin, Binder and Bagnaia maybe edges it.

1. Le Mans 24 hours.

No strong feelings for a 2nd or 3rd candidate.

1. Cape Town Formula e. Made better by the Hyderabad race before and the brilliant defence there by Jean-Eric Vergne.
2. BTCC Brands Hatch Indy race 3. Ricky Collard vs Ash Sutton which ended in a fair track limit penalty but the racing was tremendous.
3. Singapore Grand Prix. The key to a great race is not knowing who is going to win from the first lap to the end, and that happened in Singapore, while the result was also significant.

Le Mans was great excitement but felt slightly fake due to BOP for me. I am still looking forward to next year. And I am surprised to have seen a suggestion for IndyCar Laguna Seca, probably the worst race I watched all season.

Singapore
Vegas
And in first place, the S1GP of Bulgaria (Supermoto), as I was there. It was decided in the last corner as well.

I would have ranked it number one if it wasn't for the safety car rules debacle. Please tell me this has been resolved for next year...

Yes, FE Cape Town and Le Mans are the runaway winners for me.

Only saw this year's Indy 500, so that's my number 1, 2, and 3.

Was there as well, my 23rd!

Not anywhere near the best race I've seen there (obviously that's 2011), nor really a particularly good race compared to the other racing events this year, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!

1. 107th Indianapolis 500, because I was there

2. IndyCar @ Laguna Seca, because it was the most fun I've had watching a race on TV in years

3. F1 @ Las Vegas, because it was the first time I've stayed up past 3 AM watching a Grand Prix in years

Honorable mentions to IndyCar @ Texas (great super speedway racing), NASCAR @ Chicago (SVG baby), the Rolex 24 (I was there), the Petit Le Mans (I was there), IndyCar @ St. Pete (I was there), F1 @ Singapore (great finish), and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (first time in years it was watchable even if I wasn't thrilled by the winner).

1. Formula Ford Festival final.

2. Formula Ford Festival semi final 2.

3. Formula Ford Festival "last chance" race.

Enjoyed pretty much every F1 race on the TV too, plus such Indycar, Formula E, F2 and F3 as I found on-line.

Texas Indycar

NASCAR Chicago (lack of stupid stage breaks (which apparently may return next year sigh) SVG, wet weather and layout that actually worked))

And I don't know, Singapore GP or something

1. Formula E Cape Town
2. Le Mans
3. Indy 500

Cape Town was a barnburner with the best pass I saw all year. Le Mans felt like the most significant event of the year, and while flawed, had a sense of scale nothing else did. Indy had me terrified for the safety of the drivers and also clueless about who would win until the literal finish line.
