So I’ve been to the races and seen folk paying over the odds for a jacket or a cap… and I can sort of get that

But this;

McLaren just emailed me saying I could be in a prize draw if I purchased a huge list of these ‘tokens’

Is there a large market for this sort of thing?! I don’t understand it in the slightest… appears to be digital stamps or something?! Are modern fans that guilble?

Isn't the phrase "Crap merchandise" tautology?

Not if you have a physical object in your possession. However if you’re paying money for a virtual thing that has no real value at all other than to prop up the garbage crypto market and make money for the selling party then it is a scam. NFTs are as stupid as the synthetic CDO. Selling nothing for money.

I didnt know McLaren engaged in stuff like this, but I see they are prized in "tez", and Tezos is a McLaren sponsor in the field of cryptocurrency.

Given that crypto bullshit sponsors half the grid, I expect to see more NFT ""merch"" from other teams soon.

As a big fan of the original Bitcoin design philosophy and white paper, seeing all the cryptoscams around making money hand over fist makes me shed a tear. **** NFTs

All merchandise is crap. I wouldn't even wear team/driver affiliated gear to a race. I'm not being paid to be a walking advertisement...

Points.  Let’s see who else gets it.

A lot of them are on offer at this time of year, but I’ve no idea why people spend £50-60 on baseball caps with team/driver logos on. Rip-off.

Are people really still selling NFTs? That market is deader than a groundhog in Montreal, Zak Brown might want to pay more attention to his sponsors.

NFT's is mostly crappy stuff, not many buy it, sponsorship gone soon from F1 I guess?

Crypto in general seems a bit up and down business most of the times, so what does this mean for teams financial health?

The crypto speculation bull market is back, BTC is up some 140% in the past year, so they have a lot of money to spend on nonsense like this. But that also means they have plenty of money to waste on sponsoring F1 teams, so we're good.

I still have a Prost (the team) shirt with 4 inbuilt buttons - on the belly part - that make VROOM-VROOM noises when pressed.

(I bragged about this before and no, I still don't have pictures; I know exactly where the sound module is - it evidently was removable coz how else were you gonna wash this thing? - but the shirt itself is in the attic and I don't like all of you enough to go and find it :D ).

For the last 20/25 years I have accumulated all the team caps of Williams. I cant call them crap. But the quality is crap at times. Nowadays caps are of fantastic quality. But in the BMW days they were simply awful in terms of quality.
