The Taunus above is essentially identical in all but a few details to the UK Ford Cortina Mk3. However, the Taunus was available in a two-door coupé version - which is not the one in the picture. Ford UK never offered a Cortina coupé. The Taunus and Cortina were developed in parallel until both were dropped in 1982.

I see no mention of a bunch of South African Ford muscle cars - the Capri Perana, the Sierra RX6 and RX8, the Sapphire V8 ...

I have seen them listed in other lists with U.S. companies overseas only cars, but this time I decided to post it.

That Valiant Charger could not be an R/T model...

These are not American cars. This thread title is misleading.

Sorry, Catalina Park, I don't understand what you mean. I haven't spent any money. Just some time. Is there a cost monetary cost involved? Please explain..
Thanks..

Correct, RTs were VH only. That is a Cm.

None of those cars are American cars, all manufactured in other countries. Some have a similarity to US models but that is it
Taunus is a Euro Ford, based on a Cortina, Aussie Charger is ,,, Aussie. Ditto Falcon Coupe.
Capris are English/ Euro Ford, as is Sierras.
This whole thread is total bullshit.

Bob Riebe is a valid contributor here, who has introduced drag racing and muscle cars to a new audience. He deserves some respect. From an American perspective he is intrigued by cars produced outside the USA by American-owned companies. What is wrong with that?

I'd never heard of the Taunus coupé, and I can see why it wasn't a thing for Britain - looks like a Capri on steroids. A solution for a problem that did not exist here.
Looks surprisingly good in seventies brown though.

Last time I checked, Bob didn't write the article. Did the complainers not get that? I agree, E1pix, the Dodge GTX is pretty cool. If a Demon and a '67 Fairlane had a love child...?
Posted 30 December 2023 - 11:01
Further on the writer - the article refers to "flat-4" and "flat-6" engines in some of these cars which I would bet your most recent paycheck actually had inline engines in the mentioned models. Maybe brakeforit dot com is using AI to write the filler for the pics.

Because there's little motorsport content? And it is a terrible article.

Not getting into the slanging match, but ...
Bob, I read that article. The writing was IMHO sh1thouse, and no way was I clicking on the 'more' button at the end - definitely not up to your usual standards. Feel free to enjoy this stuff, but please be a little more discriminating/precise in your recommendations to us, eg "some nice pics of American-style cars produced outside the USA"
I would almost put money on the suggestion above that it was an AI generated text in which case - woe is us.
An even more woe-inducing thought - AI has taken over the 'Bob Reibe' persona
Happy New Year everybody!!

There was a Granada Mk 1 coupé which made it to the UK. Thankfully we didn't see too many. I'd like to blame the Germans for it, but who wants to know what happened in Essex.

For what it is worth:
I have read articles on pre-nineties cars from major rags , Hot Rod, Vintage Motosport for familiar names, where it is obvious the writer has zero knowledge about the vehicles, or time period, and is just mimicking what he has been told by some also ignorant source, as it is mostly Bollocks.
I am not going to play editor for articles online (though on rare occasions I have done so) as automobiles from overseas I have knowledge in the past from subscribling to British, Australian, New Zealand and South African magazines (most of which are now out of print) and I am not going to make claims when it is all second hand on a good day.
Now one can find information, that to a U.S. citizen, is both eye opening and simply informative new news, source accuracy, is a crap shoot, to often.
If some thing is not enjoyable, stop/ don't read/ing it and move on.
There was a time back in the Buford and Fines days when I would engage in semi-nasty. one on one, exchanges but it made no sense so those days are pretty much gone.
Merry Sixth Day of Christmas and have a Blessed New Year.

What is wrong with it,, the heading for a start. 30 American cars NOT sold in the US. None are American cars start with that. See my other contribution.
The story he has based it on is wrong in many ways. So has no substance.

Depends on how one defines "American", doesn't it? American parentco. Is Volvo a Chinese marque now? Technically, yes.
Certainly nobody seems to consider British-built Toyotas as British...

In case it's useful for the historical record, I toured Ford's Dagenham plant in 1971. The workers' language would have left no car in doubt that it came from Essex and no-where more civilised. The torrent of obscenity stopped only when everyone spotted the stunning blonde in our party, and the metal shed echoed with whistles and wolf calls which must have threatened its structural integrity.

In Australia Holden, Ford and Valiant were all Australian, but Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, VW, BMC/Leyland were all foreign.

Was Dagenham part of Essex in 1971 ? Thought it became part of Greater London a few years before
It's both. Local government is the Greater London Authority, postal address is Essex.

For NASCAR's purposes, Toyotas are considered domestic to the US. I suppose some individual units are though some are not.
