Little pace today. It’s a very weird track. Let’s see how tomorrow goes.

Tyres are so inconsistent here, Imola will be a better barometer with three FPs.

Crazy that Norris put his fastest time of the weekend on mediums. Pirelli is back with it again.

Wonder what lando would of done if he had if gone softs on the 1st lap of q3 especially with no one improving on there last lap dye to a drop in temps.

This weekend is a bit outlier. Lando did 1.27.5s on mediums and barely matched it with softs today. Ferraris were lucky with their first good banker laps. Their last attempts were slower than Perez, Lando and Oscar. It will be interesting race in terms of strategy and Lando's long run pace.

Bit underwhelming after yesterday, but its a new car with barely any run, so theres a lot to understand.

Zak Brown reported that the difference between the fully upgraded car and the half upgraded car was two tenths.

Well, Oscar was faster all qualifying and in the end, he's only one tenth behind.

This reminds me somewhat of France 2004. A much better car, but not unlocked yet. Pace will come the more track time we see. I think Imola should be a much better picture of where this car is at as they will learn a lot this weekend.

Bizarre that McLaren couldn't find any benefit with the soft tyres. By rights, they should be bang on the pace for pole id there was gain like the other teams had. Need to understand that.

Yeah, I have just seen this. Lando isn't happy about the changes they have made saying he lost some confidence today and there were more lap time in the car. These things happen. They need a race or two to understand the new car and its needs to maximise the package.

They had to make changes after the soft tyre issues yesterday.

But, RB said before the weekend that the difference with soft and medium was minimal here. Hopefully set up for a bit better in the race.

Sprints on fairly new tracks are not cool. A sprint at a Monza or Interlagos makes sense.

Mclaren tried setup changes and it didn't work. That's life. the lack of track time played it's role. I think Mclaren will be in it's element in Imola. All in all not too bad to be starting on third row.

I don't think there's much to worry about, it was clearly a strange session in regards to tyre behaviour, I bet the car is very fast for the race tomorrow.

Both drivers did a solid job, once again both in top 6

Decent results, but given the lack of upgrades Piastri presumably would have been on for a p3 qualifying had he had the same specification as Norris

McLaren really need to look at why they can't bring equal upgrades for both drivers, as it would have cost Oscar positions in the sprint race too.

Solid if not a touch underwhelming result in qualli, thought the car was good enough for second row at least. Oh well see how the race goes. Decent job from both drivers right next to each other.

I expect another Lando podium actually, doesn't look like Ferrari have wear sorted but I think the McLaren will be strong on the harder compounds

The Ferraris were “lucky”? Why? How? Genuine question. Did track conditions play to their favor? Something else? Perhaps they made a good strategic decision to go early. Perhaps the drivers put down quality laps. Perhaps the drivers managed their tires well. Perhaps the team did well with the setup.

I see zero basis for claiming Ferrari (or any team’s) lap(s) were lucky; it strikes me as a sour-grapes gripe to justify a less-than-ideal outcome for the team you support.

The only time I could see such the “lucky” claim having legs would be if weather (or some factor beyond the driver’s control) had an impact on the session, like KMag’s pole at Interlagos.

Leclerc’s tire degradation was comparable to Verstappen’s during the sprint. Sainz and Piastri were tit-for-tat. What are you basing this claim of Ferrari having deg issues on?

Ferrari hasn’t had a tire deg issue at any point this season and have generally been the kindest on their tires among all the teams. Their issue in China was they were too gentle on the tires, which coupled with the cooler temps, prevented them from properly turning them on.

They don't need to look at the reasons why because they need to do a comparison to understand that the correlation works.

Ferrari strong point is tyre wear. I don't expect any issues from them on that area.

I'm sure I heard Sainz say that he struggled a bit towards the end of the sprint, maybe I'm imagining things...

Anyway to two, get off my back and get ready for another Lando podium, geez....

Never presume anything.

And bringing your updates when you can is the best way. Giving them to the leading and more experienced driver is also not a bad thing.

Last year Max did 1.26.8 (didn't participate in Q3), Charles 1.26.9, Alonso 1.27.1 and Lando did 1.28.4. It's odd that their lap times are almost half a second slower (Aston lost more than a second) compared to last year. McLaren improved their lap time by 0.8 and reduced the gap from 1.6 second to 0.3 tenths.

Sainz was stuck in Ricciardos Rear wing, that ought to be bad for tyre wear.

Let's hope for Lando's podium together, however behind? Okay :)

F1 doesn't work like this and you know that.   Lando's car is completely new so it's possible that they weren't able to extract all of the performance from it and why Lando struggled. This could have happened to Oscar if he also had all of the upgrades.

Mclaren don't look like they've fully maximized the upgrades on Lando's car.  Mclaren didn't improve at all compared to Sprint qualy where Ferrari and Red Bull gained 4 tenths. Mclaren could have fought for pole if they made the same gains as the others but it's understandable that they messed up the settings because it's a sprint weekend.

A team bringing a politician, anyone and anywhere, and giving any space for promotion, should be punished by FIA.

I do not think McLaren invited him, there is a Trump supporter who bought a suite, however as a former President of the US, no team will tell him to go away if he show up - They grin and bear it.
