F1 last season gave us the start times on dec 16 2022 but at the moment it’s a lot more hush about the start times for this year. Is it due to the lack of news on how the sprints that is causing the hold ups of the start times or is there something else keeeing fia to keep hush about the start times?

Yeah, it's probably because the sprint weekend format is yet to be decided. I guess they might tweak the normal weekend session times as well.

I'd take that for European races, takes it back to 10pm for me.

Takes a while. They also have to fit in F2, F3, F1 Academy, Porsche Supercup, local supporting series and all VIP events and parades.

Yeah, but those support race + parade + other procedural times are event-specific and won't get announced until couple of weeks before each GP (some may be published month or two beforehand). The generic GP session times have usually been published by now

For me both opening races and sprint races schedule may explain the delay.
I'm pretty sure that FOM would like to see qualy for race 1 and 2 at 10 or 11pm local time in order to keep TV broadcasters happy.

And remember that the first two races, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, will be run on Saturday night local time.

Hopefully fia will stop going around the houses (posting about other stuff minus car launches as car launches are also important) as it need to get a wiggle on and spill the beans on the start times so I can finally plan my plans

Tho I want to stress once more that the Grand Prix is on a SATURDAY.
It seems that many are still unaware of this. So repeating this is simply trying to warn you all for this

Although in a way it's a shame it's become more "generalized" with F2 and F3 partly replacing local series that used to be there (S5000, AGT etc), it's still easily the best offering all year round and just great value for money

I used to enjoy the Aussie Racing Cars. They were great fun around AP.

They were there last year, which Melbourne had another first for and the garage area was open for people to walk around in. I got right up close and personal with Bearman's Prema (Prema had it sitting out on the walkway).

Absolutely! I have to start at 7am on Monday as I have a staff member returning from leave, after that, conveniently on Mondays I can start at 0900, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Bahrain was a Sunday morning race...

It kinda surprises me that people are still oblivious about the first two races being driven on a saturday. I dont know if it was a bit of sarcasm Sophie. But around me people are still unaware. The FIA and FOM should have given more attention to this, because Ill bet you a tenner that there will be people; "Oh I missed the Grand Prix, didnt know it was held on a saturday!"
They advertise the hell out of a Grand Prix that no one is waiting for (Miami and Las Vegas for example), but they do not advertise the hell out of this to make sure it is well know. It has only been a small passage during the calendar announcement and then the official channels havent spoken about this anymore.

No I’m not being sarcastic, why should I have been aware that they’re holding the races on Saturday? You go on to say how it’s not been advertised strongly on the official channels.

To be fair and no offense; there are many people who do know it as well. And considering you are an active member on a racing forum, I was perhaps a bit short sighted to assume many of the regular posters (like yourself) would know this.
No worries, and for whatever reason, I’d just missed the discussion here and haven’t seen it anywhere else. The first time I saw it referenced was someone on Twitter last week and I thought they were kidding.

The thursday weekend start only counts for F1. Just wanted to make sure you didnt automatically assume that you could head into the weekend and forget about work!
At least for me I fear that's not the case....

Watching them delayed on Sat or Sun evening is also always better than watching Indycar delayed on Monday evening, which usually has happened for non 500 / non midday East coast races

I would be happy for it to be saturday for all of them. Then no two days compromised, and after the race - even if it's a bad one - you have the whole rest of the weekend to go!
Don't care about qualifying any more as it's largely irrelevant to the race (since tyre deg is king, and DRS is so powerful), except in Monaco.

I work this Saturday, so it'll be a delayed watch. But then again I also work on Sunday for the Australian GP weekend, and there are to be many other conflicting Saturdays or Sundays later this year too, so in the end it doesn't matter that much for me when these races are, I guess...

Seems a shame that despite Japan’s rich motorsport heritage and strong car manufacturing industry, the only support to F1 are two European one-make GT series.

Seems a shame that despite Japan’s rich motorsport heritage and strong car manufacturing industry, the only support to F1 are two European one-make GT series.
Super Formula had attempted to have support race for F1 this year, but it didn't materialize for some reason
Last year they didn't have Ferraris, but BMW/Mini Challenge thingie. Not that this is any less European...
But yes, in ideal world there'd be something like 250km Super GT race on Saturday afternoon after F1 qualifying. And Super Formula on Sunday morning... maybe Japanese F4 / Japanese Formula Regional too...
