What Motorsport are you planning to watch in 2024

My bread and butter are:
-F1 ( mainly due to a long viewership ) gotta continue my Team Williams fandom.
- indycars ( watch every race or youtube highlights)
The one offs Bathhurst, daytona 24, Le mans depending on work commitments.
New for me this year or more a coming back.
BTCC, the on the limit docu series on you tube is very good makes drive to survive look cheap and tacky.
So i will be giving BTCC some love and attention this year in 2024. After all you should try new things.

Not Formula E it seems as it has vanished from my TV screen!

I’m going to make an effort to follow more sportscar racing, so WEC and IMSA, but I’ll probably not be watching the races live.
I’ll be attending the BTCC races at Thruxton as is now tradition.

I am hoping to watch:
1. At Brands Hatch: British GT/GB3/GB4; BTCC with F4; 750 Motor Club; Formula Ford Festival; maybe British Superbikes.
2. Some of the above at Snetterton and Thruxton.
3. Vintage Sports Car Club at Silverstone.
4. Formula One highlights on Channel 4.
5. Formula E on Youtube.
6. Odd bits of Youtube for various Formula Regionals and Indycar, Formulae 2 and 3, plus some GB4, and Superformula.
Supplemented by reading race reports in Autosport for pretty much all of the above, and for other international and UK series too.

BTCC, F1, F2 and Indycar.
I was planning to watch Formula E. I had watched all previous nine seasons, but I'm not paying £29.99 a month for it.

Blimey, I was a little confused when I couldn’t see any FE on any ‘normal’ channels last week (it’s the type of thing that I stick on the TV in the background but I occasionally watch full races)…didn’t realise it had gone PPV. I think viewership and interest will plummet…

On TV it will be;
F1 highlights on ch4
FE as it turns out we have TNT on our broadband package.
WEC
some BTCC (Ginetta Juniors and Knockhill are normally entertaining)
British Superbike highlights
LeMans.
In real life we will try and get back into pre-covid routine of;
local bike and car hillclimbs
Castle Combe as our "local" track, same distance as Thruxton (about 100 miles) but the journey is more scenic and as a spectator you can walk around the entire perimiter during the course of a meeting (the only UK track you can?).

Motogp. With Marquez on a Ducati it has high hopes of being exciting this season.
WSBK I’ll see how it starts. If Ducati dominate, I’ll pass.
Planning to look for some good rally documentaries on YouTube or elsewhere. If you have suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Same with any racing series that you think is worth watching and can be caught on YouTube or some other free platform.

Quote from last week's Autosport:
...the championship moves behind a paywall for the first time in 2024 in a bid to gain a more stable viewership.
Edit: 2024 not 204

If you already pay when you cancel usually it goes to £20 pcm in the past down from the £30 ish it usually is.
Indycar and F1 together makes that more appealing.
If F1 had the Highlight like Indycar you could really not pay for either. F1 highlights are to arty for me. By the time tou have the intro and BS not much left.
It does make you wonder how these series access new viewership on PPV TV. Especially Formula E, not really for me but i am at the point where i need to give them a good go again vs the first 2-3 seasons i watched in the past.

Will watch every race
- Formula E (free to air in two channels in Italy, so very accessible for me, also... i love it!)
- MotoGP (in my opinion, the best Motorsport Series in the world, hands down)
- WEC (upcoming season is set to be historical, with record breaking number of hypercar manufacturers)
Will watch highlights & some races
- F1 (my interest about it is dropping season by season, but will tune in for the most iconic grand prixes.)
- Indycar (love the racnig, but it's not very accessible in terms of timetable or coverage in italy. Will tune in for the 500 for sure)
- F2 (main reason of interest for me this year is the presence of Kimi Antonelli, will probably watch)

F1, F2, and IndyCar are my main three where I plan to watch every race if possible.
F3 and WEC are close but not quite that crucial for me. (with Le Mans being a must-watch of course)
Sometimes other single seaters or endurance if I still haven't had enough racing on a particular weekend but I'm not following those championships very closely.
Also following WRC but it's a bit different with the events spread out over the whole weekend, I usually try to catch a few stages here and there.

IndyCar, IMSA, WEC, including a visit to the Texas round, and as much F1 as it takes for Verstappen to secure the lead, at which point I've generally turned it off.

I shall religiously watch every Formula 1 race and qualifying session as that is my passion, although I will not watch any sprint races or sprint shootouts because I think they dilute the excitement of the Grand Prix.
I shall also watch every BTCC race and as many qualifying sessions as I can, as although 2023 was quite processional, I still love it.
I would ordinarily watch every Formula e race but for this year I will mostly just have to read race reports to follow it, sadly.
For WRC, I will read all the Autosport articles to keep in touch with what is going on and then get the end of year season review DVD.
For IndyCar, I will watch the Indy 500 and the odd other race depending on what else there is to do at the times when they are on, but I will keep in touch with the general championship.
For WEC, I will watch Le Mans and bits of the odd other race depending on what else there is to do at the times when they are on, but I will keep in touch with the general championship.
For F2, I will watch the odd race and keep in touch with the general championship.
NASCAR is dead to me but I will probably check wikipedia to see the final championship positions.

My big three classically were F1, MotoGP and BTCC but BTCC fell off the radar a loooong time ago and since Rossi left I've dropped away from MotoGP, I'd love to get back into all three because more racing is better than less (to a point) but it's hard getting into a series when you don't have any favourites yet, I need someone to support to really get the blood pumping.

I have a Brands season ticket, so will be there most weekends. I tend to miss the Superbikes, BTCC and the Americain thing.
Will take a trip to Lydden Hill in June as the 2CVs are racing.

Ranked in order of excitement:
Le Mans (and maybe a few other WEC races such as Spa and Imola. Hopefully it's not another Toyota fest. Outside of Le Mans, the WEC calendar doesn't hugely excite me, but you have to savour this special era whilst it lasts)
IMSA (didn't catch every race last year, but always really enjoy IMSA for generally better quality of racing, better variety of race distances and and more interesting tracks than WEC)
MotoGP (notwithstanding my dislike of the aero war currently going on in MotoGP, last season was really entertaining from a championship perspective. Marquez on a Ducati is a fascinating - albeit scary - prospect)
IndyCar (kinda lost touch with it the last few years, but every time I watch it, I enjoy it, so will make more of an effort this year)
F1 (mostly out of habit really, not expecting a huge amount out of this season other than something very similar to last - but then I felt that way heading into 2021, and look what happened. Clinging on to the tiny smidgen of hope that it won't be a Verstappen walkover...)
Maybe the odd BTCC round on wet weekends when I've not got anything else to do/watch, but it has become very same-y to me in recent years and really needs something fresh, like new regs or race format, to properly recapture my imagination.

Definitely the Indy 500, probably around half of the remaining Indycar races and possibly some F1 races. That's gonna be it.
I am stuck in my "motorracing sucks" phase that I experience round about every ten years

F1, most Moto GP, most F2 races, most WEC, some Indy, some F3. Used to watch BTCC and WRC but slowly fell away from them.
Always watch or go to the Festival of Speed (if that counts).

Likely the Indy 500 only.

Posted 18 January 2024 - 15:14
IndyCar - the only series where i'm ready to make an effort to watch all races, follow the news in the media & socials etc.
F1 - i'll probably see most if not all races, more out of a habit than anything else.
Sportscars - i'll keep an eye on WEC, IMSA etc but won't be jumping through hoops to do so, but i will check the results.
NASCAR - not really my cup of tea but it's everywhere so i'll probably catch a few races if there's nothing else to watch.
F2, Formula E, NHRA, the Aussie and Japanese stuff and others - i won't change the channel if i happen to run into them, but it is not very likely...
Two wheels - sorry, not interested!

IOMTT - Signed up again for the live coverage & may pop over to the Island for the Southern 100 during July. Any Irish road races left on the calendar via TV. BSB. Maybe some MotoGP
Indycar if not on too late / Early, Le Mans. Probably visit Thruxton or Brands at some point during the season.

Indy 500 and selected other Indycar events (probably around 5 other races and their supports... I think St Pete, Long Beach, Toronto, Mikwaukee, Nashville or something)
Nurburgring 24 Hours
NASCAR Chicago
That's probably it

Depends on what's available, but...
Indycar - all races
MotoGP - so long as it doesn't start again resembling F1 in processional races
WSBK - though it's nice NBC is carrying these, they've made a hash of it by only carrying the second races since NBC Sports went away.
NASCAR Modified Tour - I'm catching up on the 2023 season now. Would have watched them sooner save for a lengthy, chaotic move and busy since
Probably check out a few ARCA races
Maybe check in with MotoAmerica (still have 2023 to catch up on)
That's probably about it For someone who used to literally watch all forms of racing, including all the support series, it's quite a decline. Then again, many of those series have disappeared from U.S. TV, or just disappeared.

Love IndyCar so I’ll be watching that
F1 is still the only motor-racing championship that has the ability to make you be physically shaking with nervous tension as the cars wait for lights out, I’ll be watching that.
And I’ll take in what I can or BTCC, FE, Le Mans as time allows.
#30
Posted 18 January 2024 - 20:38
- WEC for the first time
- maybe FE, haven't watched since Season 1
- the random UK amateur race live streams I find on Youtube on lazy Sundays, they are always great fun

WEC I'll skip some rounds.
IMSA: I may check Daytona.
F1: Maybe... is free on TV, so why not.
EWC: I really wanted to, but don't have enough spare time for other endurance series.
Anything else I may or may not read the headlines about it.

MotoGP: It's been couple of years since I followed the whole season. Looking forward to see what Marquez can do with a Ducati.
Then whatever motorsport available on TV, when I got free time.

MotoGP is the only one that I for sure can say I will watch every race, as many as possible of them live.
I will make an attempt at WSBK, MotoX (US), Indycar as well, but with the US series the time difference kind of throw me off, and I never gelled with the WSBK sprint race and race. To many races, and when I first fall off, kind of do not get on again.
Will get a few F1 races as well, curious about how Aston Martin's progression goes, as they will run with Honda engines in 26.

I will be following F1, WEC, and IMSA like religion as well as the major GT3 enduros. I'm also curious about Marc Marquez's debut for Ducati. Everything else (WRC, Indycar, etc) followed by news reports and the forum chatter.

I will take the usual (as in: stable since 2020) helping of F1, F2, F3 and IndyCar, with maybe the occasional Formula E or V8 Supercars. My youngest son (aged 4) also likes to watch NASCAR highlights, so I might tune in for some of that too

F1 and a bit of MotoGP I would imagine.
