Well, it is a Typ 1937, for starters, not a "C Type," of course.

Here are some possibilities from 1937...

76006/42/24 = Rosemeyer, AVUSrennen

76004/46/46 = Fagiloi, AVUSrennen

76003/47/15 = von Delius, AVUSrennen

76001/40/45 = Hasse, AVUSrennen

Wagen / Motor / Kompressor

Deutsches Museum homepage says it's a 1936 Type C:

https://digital.deut...n-object/68403/

"Silberpfeile" from Anthony Pritchard states, that the car survived WW II in the Deutsches Museum and was in 1979/80 costly restored by Audi-NSU.

There is at "Zwischengas" an article about the history of this car.

The Type A/B/C/D names were never Auto Union official designations and were only applied in retrospect. In period, as Don indicates, they were referred to simply by the year the designs were introduced. However, the 'shorthand' version has become an accepted use, even if not historically correct.

From admittedly often illusory memory I seem to recall being told that the Deutsches Museum Auto Union was purely a show car specially assembled by the team/company for the institution...
