Do drivers use standard helmets anymore?

Seems to me that 100% of the grid uses special designs at 100% of the events.

I love seeing the helmets but could I ask that people add the driver in the posts rather than just the picture of the helmet. Most of them are so hard to find the name or number on these days it can be quite confusing to see whose helmet is whose!

Gasly's looks like a generic pattern you see in a helmet catalogue.

Utterly horrendous.

I actually like Gasly's helmet. It is a bit messy but the pale blue looks great,

Have to wonder why the drivers continually accept such terrible designs.  What is distinctive about Gasly's latest design?  You would never know who it belonged to.

Nice blue.

I couldn't tell whose it was until I read the small "Gasly" label.

What if, heavens forbid, he ordered it like that because he likes it and does not have a hard on for an uber distinctive design like some hardcore helmet fetishists?

An absolute mess...

Despite the mess, there are still Jules Bianchi and Antoine Hubert signs on his helmet. That does count for something. So at least it is not the worst in my book đŸ˜‰

I don’t see it as a Hamilton tribute, it’s very Lando

Would be fun to see a philanthropist making an arrangement like "I will spend 100 million dollars on an good cause if all the Formula One drivers will NOT change helmet designs this year. And else I'll put it on Red in a casino."

I wonder which driver will develop a rash first because he can't make money out of mini helmet figurines.

Was going to post that, but you beat me to it.

Although to be honest I wouldn't be so kind as to use the word extravagant to qualify that monstrosity of a kit.

That's easy: Verstappen.

(Disclaimer: Genuine puzzlement from me that could be based on a misunderstanding)

I understood Beri's question as implicitly saying the drivers are money grabbing by changing helmet designs and asked who would be most greedy. If that was also your interpretation, why did you nominate Verstappen?

Probably because he releases the most mini-helmets of everybody?

He is even going back to his old designs and releasing those.  :drunk:

By month's end he will have released 25. I don't have statistics, but I can tell you nobody will get close to that figure over such a short period of time (2018 was the first one).

Anyways, it was just an observation. Not a criticism.

This yes. But it is indeed Verstappen who has a habit of doing this purely for the releases of the mini helmets. Of drivers like Norris I genuinely think it is because they think it's cool to change helmets.

Well, you know....if you asked me that in August I would said the same but after so many months it kinda grew on me. Now I can even find it better than their 3rd kit which is extremely dull. Last seasons Hass-style black and gold was miles better.

Anyway back to topic - I really don't like what Leclerc did to his helmet, why add black? Red and white was a lot better.

These days I don't mind drivers changing their designs periodically, as some of that might be influenced by sponsorships/changes in teams over time. However, I like it when drivers maintain their chosen colors over their careers.
