Verstappen back on track today with the new Red Bull [RB20]

Max Verstappen is back in action on Tuesday, with the three-time F1 champion shaking down the new Red Bull at Silverstone.

Max Verstappen will shake down Red Bull's new F1 title challenger at Silverstone on Tuesday, RacingNews365 has learned.

Verstappen will be in action at the British Grand Prix venue in the RB20 as he sets off on the long road of a record-breaking 24-race calendar towards potentially claiming a fourth drivers' title.

Following a change in the shake down rules for this season, teams are now allowed to cover a total of 200 kilometres, double what was previously allowed. For Silverstone, this means Red Bull's new car covering a total of 33 laps on Pirelli's demonstration tyres.

Verstappen looks set to be joined by team-mate Sergio Perez who will also tick off his first laps in the successor to last year's all-conquering RB19 that won 21 of 22 grands prix, with the Dutchman taking the chequered flag on 19 occasions.

With a dry morning forecast, it means Red Bull should be able to hit the ground running in a car that will officially be unveiled on Thursday at its Milton Keynes headquarters where RacingNews365 will be in attendance.

With the shake down taking place before the unveiling, it means Verstappen and Perez should be able to offer some insight into the RB20 that will then be put through its paces in pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit on February 21-23.

For me it looks like the Central part is way narrower than we are used to see.

I don't know the shadows kind look like just a "ridge"

Looks like they've copied Merc's W14 or rather taken some inspiration from.

I have given up analyzing this stuff. Taking good pictures that actually show something probably is prohibited, right?

Interesting how little spray there is off the front wheels compared to back.

The spray seems to give a good indication of airflow.

I think this photo is actually the RB19. The RB20 engine cover is higher and looks more like the Merc W14:

the Honda logo isn't in the right place compared to this screen cap from the video either.

That just lighting causing the black part of the nose to blend with the asphalt. The nose tip is smooth and connects at the lower FW plane.

Maximum wheelbase is limited to 3600mm IIRC, and teams tend to design the cars pretty much to this limit, so I suspect the car is the same length as the RB19.

Considering how dull the studio shakedowns have become in recent years. (especially RB, but others as well).

These leaked, low-quality RB photos have been the highlights for me for the past few years. It induces lots of guessing and speculating and investigating.

It is like a tradition by now. I almost think they are doing it on purpose.

Reminds me of the old ‘spy shots’ on the front of F1 Racing & Autosport mag… good times.

I'm still trying to make sense of what I'm looking at, partly because I'm so surprised I can see any difference in the first place. I fully expected a car that looked like the RB19.

This sounds stupid, but even the livery looks just weird. You can barely see the Bull on the engine cover :rotfl: Surely that part of the car is just some kind of test? Or is it so new that they didn't have the time to adapt the livery?

True, and I agree.

Which means, the driver sits much more towards to the front, though not as much as W14, which makes it look like the car is longer. We will see, and I could hardly think that this car will not be the benchmark… Ferrari looks like a classic car…
