This supports the theory I had back at the time that the FIA was actively giving Alonso decisions because it was a feel good story and good PR for the sport!

Shame they can't orchestrate a competitive field of 26 cars.
I'd be happy with 22 cars!

That is correct; may have been a post of mine, actually. It didn't get nixed by the courts, but the EU Competition Commissioner was investigating the FIA, which was abusing its powers to sanction specific non-F1 races in order to make sure that there were no popular races anywhere near an F1 race on the same weekend that the F1 race was being held. The initial claim was brought to the EU by a guy who promoted truck races in Europe and spotted that the FIA were shifting around his proposed race schedule for no good reason. The FIA's conflict of interest was that they were disadvantaging the truck race promoter at the same time that they were benefiting from F1 races' having less competition to sell tickets.
The real snag was that, during the EU's investigation, there was a scandal involving a different EU Commissioner and things got so bad that all the EU Commissioners resigned, including the Competition Commissioner. When the EU Commission re-formed, the CC's replacement, Mario Monti, was less challenging towards the FIA. This created the opening for Mosley to concoct his absurd scheme to give Bernie the 100-year rights for a fixed upfront price - on the basis that, once the payment was made, the FIA would no longer have a financial stake in the success of F1. The fact that the price Bernie had to pay the FIA for the rights was roughly 10% of their true value was a small detail.
The EU accepted the deal between the FIA and Bernie, got the FIA to make a few other marginal changes, and settled the case.
Thank you! I really appreciate the knowledge and historical perspective some of you are able to bring to this forum. I learn a bit more F1 history here every day!!

Are we sure that these scandals are not being orchestrated for the benefit of Netflix?
Yes.

Maybe the timing of this is more related to the fact that we are back at the Saudi Arabian GP, rather than anything to do with anything else going on in F1.

Forgive me, but what did you call, and why did you quote shout at us? Bit rude.
I called out that a largely unaccountable organization running a sham investigation would pronounce the target of said sham investigation, blameless.
And it was hot off the presses A joke then and now. But not about the investigation.

The FIA is a political organization, and many people around MBS carry proverbial knives. I don't think it's easy to brush under the rug in the long-term.

See above, The Organization for the Propagation of Racing Malfeasance and its protection of The Leader of The Organization of Racing Malfeasance. It makes all previous sham investigations blush in embarrassment at the latest debacle.

Worth pointing out that the letter from the North American clubs isn't signed by every North American FIA member - it's not signed by Barbados, or, more prominently, the US.

That's quite a letter!
Btw how do you propagate an accusation? Do you need specialist tools?
I also enjoyed the implication that it is possible to slander the FIA and its leadership with cause.
Also endorsing and ratifying one's own vote. I shall shout out to the tellers in the polling station this May "I endorse and ratify this vote!" as I drop my ballot paper in to the ballot box. That's voting with style.
I feel like they maybe think "more words = more persuasive".

Look at the letter: It references events at Vegas in 2023. There's an ongoing legal case in regards to the track, in which ACCUS is likely involved. For them not to sign it is the correct action, IMHO.
Frank Fotia being one of the names at the top of the list doesn't surprise me. Tim Shearman, the CAA's President and CEO, is the FIA Deputy President for Mobility and probably Ben Sulayem's biggest ally.

The Vegas ticket lawsuit is Liberty, LVGP (which is Liberty) and the construction company that initially sealed the valve covers. The next one will likely be Liberty, LVGP and the county for business interference with regard to private use of public property.
