Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Sky's coverage of this year's Australian GP was the item narrated by Damon Hill, the man whom Schumi cheated of a driver's championship 30 years ago at the same event. The report showed various angles of footage of the incident, which, to my mind, demonstrates conclusively that MS turned in on him after putting himself out of the race via a meeting with a wall.

Damon was very calm, his recitative inflected by not a hint of bitterness, which was oddly impressive.

After it aired, Martin Brundle remarked on this, adding, when Mr. Hill asked him if the German's move was deliberate, that he thought it was.

Those who remember Martin's commentary of Jerez '97 recall that Schumacher's turning in on Jacques in a similar attempt cleared all doubt from his mind.

IMHO, Damon Hill should be known as a Two-time Drivers' Champion, and Schumi as a footnoted second behind Lewis Hamilton's record number of championships.

Thoughts?

My thought is that this will be a closed thread.

I'm sure this will go well. Regardless of what Hill, Brundle or anyone else thinks, it's not proof of anything.

Did they ask Damon about taking Michael out twice in 1995?

What a loaded thread.

Whether it was intentional or not, nobody will convince me that Hill deserved the title more than Schumacher in 1994, Schumacher only had 12 results that counted that season, compared to Hills 16

I think Damon should never have any business fighting for that championship.

I mean, they punished MS with basically three zero pointers because he overtook on a warm up lap...

And i was a fan of Hill at the time...

The topic title of this thread alone makes me want to plead for it to be closed.

Is this really a thread about Adelaide '94 ? Your last line suggests otherwise.

Schumacher was by far the best driver of 1994 but being the deserving world champion is about more than just being the best driver. He was also by far the best in 1996, and Moss was in 1961. Personally, I think the Benetton was illegal and the Adelaide move deliberate. So Hill should have been champion. But no legal case please.

Why? We have threads that are ongoing with a lot more vitriol being exchanged and a lot and I mean a lot of hot takes, than any of this can shake off at this point.

The topic title of this thread alone makes me want to plead for it to be closed.

Zmeej,

We do sometimes stretch a point and let stuff from thirty years ago into this, a discussion forum about mostly current racing events. However, we also ask people to show some neutrality and fairness in OPs and also we banned general driver threads which boil down to how much a jerk was this guy or not, which this -

“IMHO, Damon Hill should be known as a Two-time Drivers' Champion, and Schumi as a footnoted second behind Lewis Hamilton's record number of championships.

Thoughts?”

…more or less does. From bitter experience, it just angrys up the blood of all concerned and gets nowhere.
