Lance doesn’t bring any budget to his current drive…

… but his dad does.

That happens when your dad bought the team for you to drive in...

Drivers and teams both use this thing called money, so useful to have some. Money affords opportunity in an expensive activity; a concept in motorsports as old as the automobile itself. Soon people will scoff at the idea that teams need to use tires to race.

Prema to indycar sounds great until Lance Stroll is announced as one of their drivers.

Why? F1 without Lance - good. Stroll good enough driver for Indycar. But, his dad sold Prema some times ago.

If in Ericsson mould it'll be Ströll. If Danish Strøll. But there's enough Danes so the Swedes can have him.

As long as you two fight over him. Norway can wait for another driver! :p

Lance doesn’t bring any budget to his current drive…

So Ericsson stopped being a pay driver in F1 when his backers decided to buy Sauber instead?

I think Stroll might be more likely to wind up in WEC in the Aston Martin entry rather than in an Indycar paddock.  Still within the family business, and in a paddock with closer ties to he one he left than Indycar.

Based on an article I came across today that I posted in the Aston Martin thread, Stroll might have a desire to end up on the business/management side of things.

Reminder that Stroll is an F1 pole sitter and podium finisher... far more heralded drivers have achieved less in similar machinery.

Re: McLaren I don’t think Rossi will leave. He seems settled there and liked by the team. He is a very good profressional that can be trusted with the machinery. I did at one point think he would end up a Penske sometime as he seems their kind of driver.

Pato will stay at McLaren unless Williams or the 2nd red bull team offer him a spot.

For the third spot, it would be harsh to drop Malukas but if Illott continues to bring positive vibes it’s not out of the question. I think Malukas has to get back for Indy and put in a good drive. I am worried that he won’t as he’s sitting out the first test. If Illott drives Indy I can see him staying in that seat for the year.

Newgarden I don’t think will leave Penske. He’s worth a heck of a lot to Roger there and I think if money is an issue Roger will stump up the dough. Andretti has Herta. Ganassi has Palou. Penske needs Newgarden. They won’t get a replacement as good as Newgarden. Especially when Power is in the twilight of his career. Power won’t be leaving Penske ever same with Dixon.

Hey, if he did end up in IndyCar, we might end up with a race at Mont-Tremblant again.

Will we have Aston Martin - Honda in both F1 and IndyCar?

Stroll doesn’t need to bring any money.  His dad bought the team and uses other companies he owns to sponsor it.  Would the kid have gotten the opportunity save for that?

Barrichello thought the same…. As did Grosjean.  Even Alonso ran hot and cold.

Finland isn’t represented in Skanidy Car.  Y’all could be neighborly and let them have him.

This makes me want to start a petition to bring Lance over.

That would now be legally impossible. The same type of lawsuit that Laguna Seca faced was successful in Tremblant: https://www.lapresse...s-residants.php (en francais)

They can also have him, but they will never be a part of Scandinavia, so it doesn't impact SkanidyCar! I honestly do wonder why so few Norwegians have tried their luck in the US ladder. Anders Krohn did, and made some contacts that made it slightly easier for Norwegians later, but it's been few since. Henrik Furuseth and Ayla Ågren being the stand-outs, but both stopped after not being amazing in USF2000.

We did have some before Krohn. Harald Huysman in Indy Lights in 1993. The man who almost got to race(or, at least do Pre-Qual/Qual) for EuroBrun, and did some years with the World Sportscar Championship for Brun. But, I guess there's a reason why he did Indy Lights at 34... He is probably best known for being part of the management team of Jenson Button, helped Räikkönen after he did well in a karting event in Norway, and getting Michael Schumacher to become a shareholder in a race track he owns in Norway.

Martin Stenshorne did Barber Pro in 1997 and parts in 1998. I guess he is now best known for being the dad of Martinius Stenshorne who races F3.

Thomas Schie did Barber Pro in 1998, but I would argue he got much of his chances due to a dad being very good at landing sponsors. His dad was one of only 3 people (AFAIK) non-French who managed to get a Peugeot 205 Gr.B to use in RX, but the only one who didn't use Juha Kankkunen to be able to :p

Lastly, Atle Gulbrandsen did Skip Barber in 2004, doing quite well, but he already had a career outside of racing, and IIRC it was just "I got the chance, so why not have some fun". He's raced VLN/NLS the last 17-18 years and have been an F1 commentator in Norway since 1997. Doing it full time since 2001 or something.

I mean... Why couldn't Dennis Hauger try to get a test in IndyCar instead of Formula E? :p

Time to start the “Alonso to Andretti-Cadillac for 2027” rumor…

I think Sargeant to IndyPrema is a possibility, if he doesn't retain his Williams seat. It would make a lot of sense.

Indeed, Prema need experienced drivers. Ilott and VeeKay would be an exciting and experienced line-up, for instance.

Or Armstrong and Grosjean. Grosjean is already in the family with Iron Lynx.

I don't think Grosjean is that popular. He even attracts crashes now.

Mick Schumacher is the latest candidate for a Prema seat. They'll probably have a long list...

That would be cool.  I like the kid.  Don’t know if he’ll do better here but worth a shot.  He stands a much better chance here than he did at Haas.  Be interesting to see how he would adapt to an oval.

I think he would bring publicity and a fan base to an Indycar move.

Would be strange in a way to see Mick in IndyCar since his dad never showed any interest in driving there but off course he shouldn't copy his dad. He would be a great addition for IndyCar but on the other hand: he has a factory WEC car now, that's pretty nice as well. I can see Prema getting Calum Illot, who is also doing sports cars right now but has IndyCar experience. Marcus Armstrong will surely also be on their list and I assume Frederik Vesti as well.

But Vesti might want to stick around in F1 as test / reserve driver a bit longer, hoping that a race driver will be ill for a weekend, or have his appendix removed. He worked very hard and was excellent in his last F2 season, in which he was runner-up, he's one in a long list that deserves a chance in F1 but it looks unlikely right now. But a susbititution to replace an ill driver, what happened to Bearman, could change the perception people have of you and you might suddenly by on team's lists. It happened to Nyck de Vries, who earned an F1 seat because of a strong substitution. It could thus happen to other test / reserve drivers as well. Since the season is so long these days, that increases the chance of a driver getting ill and deemed unfit to drive. Felipe Drugovich and Jack Doohan are hoping for such a chance as well, they could also be a target for an IndyCar team.

True but I was thinking, did that fanbase of him move to WEC right now? I get the impression that his fans follow single seaters more and are following him less in WEC, I may be wrong.
