No, but Keke was worried it was going to happen to him. I think he won the following week. 2nd would have given him enough points to be a winless WDC as it turned out.

(Norris’ win wasn’t entirely on merit either, so…. Deserved and an impressive drive)

We need to stop doing this.

It was 100% on merit. Racing is unpredictable and there are cautions, safety cars, weather, and accidents. Those are normal things in a race, not anomalies that invalidate a win. Anyone who can even make it to F1 has accomplished a lot, to win is never unearned. If it makes you feel better, this is karma paying him back for Sochi.

One of the greatest wins of all time was Panis in the Ligier at Monaco. Others crashed and he soldiered on through the weather and won. Again, 100% on merit.

With no help from a biased French clerk of the course.

Just for a jolly I voted KMag. He'll start last at Monza, collide with or force everyone else to retire their car because of damage. Leaving himself as the sole runner and race winner - along with his obligatory race ban earned through all the collisions

The best part would be watching him cross the finish line, but not be confirmed winner until 2 minutes later after all the time penalties were applied.

All the officials should have been Swiss, just to get in the spirit of things.

So Piastri has already won?

I'm already wearing my coat.

Piastri won the Petit Prix of Qatar, but no Grand Prix yet. I don't know if the Indy 500 race had the consideration of "Grand Prix" regarding F1 in the fifties, but, unlike the current sprint races, it certainly delivered the same points than a regular race.

Yes, it was of Grande Épreuve status (and remained so long after its removal from the WDC calendar). Obviously never an F1 race though.

I'm not sure there is a proper name for the thing we are talking about. We can't use F1 in the name because of the Indy and F2 days. We can't simply call it a WDC race because it doesn't rule out sprints. We can't simply say Grand Prix either. WDC main event race or something.

To quote myself from a few iterations back:

Just over a year since the previous thread was published, we are again in need of a new one. Alexander Albon was the overwhelming winner of the previous poll; 0% of the Autosport forum voted for Pierre Gasly (before he won, you sneaky things!), who duly took the title of the 109th F1 GP Winner (no arguments over what constitutes "F1" and "Grand Prix" please).

:p

Feature race.

Though it also needs to include heat races to capture the 1959 German Grand Prix.

Piastri seems like the obvious choice, but I will go with Hulk when he does a Jenson Button in 2026 Audi

Answered Piastri. Not this year, as Max usually gets utterly dominating in latter part of the season, so there won't be many chances for others anymore. But 2025 maybe.

Stroll. He gets younger and better every year.

Big chance for Piastri missed today. He should've been the one to pick up the win after Norris-Verstappen crash but he had messed up his qualifying.

Yes. May not be the last time Verstappen and Norris crash this year though.

Another near miss for Piastri. I think he had lost more seconds due to the late pit stop than there were between him and Hamilton at the finish line, so who knows what could have been.

Has anyone ever won a WDC without winning a race?

Not in F1, Hawthorn and Rosberg Sr scored 1 win in 1958 and 1982.

He lost 19 seconds from being left out and was only 14.5 seconds behind Hamilton at the end. Oscar could and probably should have won this race.

Next one is going to be a proxy for "how rapidly will Antonelli be promoted" I think

Turns out your concerns were unfounded, Piastri won anyway :p
