@JennaFryer

#F1 news thread: An agreement has been reached between #FOM and #FIA to find peace between the two organizations (cont)

…. FOM and FIA have “agreed to commit to a strategic plan for the future of F1. The FIA Formula 1 World Championship has never been so strong and is growing globally and the FIA and Formula 1 are committed to delivering the best outcomes for the whole sport. (Cont)

…. “To that end, both parties are developing a new strategic plan that will allow us to seize the opportunities and further enhance the potential for F1 in the years ahead.”

Hmm. Positive I guess, but I fear this will mean Sulayem stays.

Interesting -- I like this better than all-out war but I'd like to see the strategic plan.

What does it really mean though? My first thought when I read that statement was they are going to agree to a 10 team limit in the next CA.

I am cautiously cynical, thinking that we in general will not like what they decide together on what F1 will be in future.

Words that mean absolutely jack. To my mind it just means they won’t air their dirty laundry. The relationship won’t improve.

Yep. Or who knows? With recent developments it could be a compromise where they allow Andretti in and then cap it at 11. The good and the bad. I'd hate for there to be an 11 team cap versus a 12 or 13 team cap, but it'd be better than a 10 team cap.

Those quotes sound like a threat.

When I read that opening post, I thought it was just some abbreviated Twitter snippet from actual press release (which in turn I expected to be written by AI)

But it actually IS the full statement, there's literally just two sentences of text and nothing else.

https://www.fia.com/...-strategic-plan

:drunk:

Anyway, I don't find the words threatening, just more corporate mumbo-jumbo that probably doesn't mean anything and is just stalling to ease the situation

Indeed. This is a cease fire...not actual peace.  Someone has to come out on top or this won't end.  At least behind the scenes.

Unclear. I think Liberty wants more Sprint races, but they can't have them without the FIA's approval. I also think that Andretti getting actual political support from outside the sport may have caught a few by surprise.

The FIA looks like it's trying to bury the hatchet, so-to-speak.

What saddens me is that Domenicali stays. I can't stand to listen to any word out of his mouth, nor any of his decision to make the sport more interesting.

He's the reason we're cozying up to billionaires. He's one of the reasons Andretti has been snubbed. He's the reason every weekend in a Sprint race.

You might be right, but I doubt it. My dismay at Domenicali is that he appears to be doing exactly what his bosses want, rather than saying hey, I'm a racer and this is all wrong. Replace him and (I suspect) nothing would change.

Sounds likely FOM give FIA more money, FIA fall more in line with FOM's wishes?

There's always a deal somewhere in there

I think, “Yeah, mate—right in your f***in’ back!” was the precise Alan Jones quote, yes.

No. I think people miss what F1 was like when Bernie was there. But make no mistake, I'm sure Bernie would have steered it in much the same direction (in fact, he was the one that set it on the course that has been followed). The only difference is we're now further down the line.

Yes, Bernie started the rot, assisted by his good friend and side-kick Mosley, and the subsequent leeches have continued the good work until we reached the parlous state of F1 in 2024.
