icked one of these up in the local classifieds.

Decided it was unwise to burden ancient electrics by testing it so relegated to "for display purposes only" at the Sunday cars & coffee :)

You need to match it with one of these beauties!   How much safer could you be than to have a red hot frying pan next to you as you drive?  Note that it is not a drain on your battery as they actually INTEND you to use it in motion!

Don't knock Eltron -- they're still in business. I think their survival says a lot about the resilience of their customers.

I suspect they were catering (ahem!) for ex-steam locomotive drivers, who were used to cooking breakfast on the shovel. And with this new-fangled one, there would be no danger of the fry-up disappearing up the chimney with over-exuberant use of the throttle. You see, there is progress after all ...

Of course while you're tucking into your eggs & bacon you'll want somewhere to put your pipe

Instructions to passenger: "Just hold onto these... and remember to tilt them to the INSIDE of every turn..."

Safety be damned, wish I had those - and the old cigarette lighter impact wrench that made life a lot easier a couple of times before it impacted no more.

That cost more than my first week's wages. And I once spent 3d (three pennies) on an evening out with a girl. Admittedly she wasn't impressed, but she was a lot cheaper than the Eltron Kettle & Carfri.

Yes, but was she red-hot whilst the car was in motion??

When I left school I spent about a year working in a spare parts house. It was a main Ford and GM main parts supplier as well as many well known brands. Dufor, Repco bearing and many other required parts. Asd well as a few not so required parts both from aftermarket as well as Ford and GM.

A lot of these 'must have' things are stuill around. I visited a wholesale supplier this week and still some weird stuff available.

I remember back in the 1960's in the UK at least, there used to be an aftermarket device that clamped onto the end of your tailpipe.  It was conical in shape and formed a venturi that claimed to harness the airflow underneath the car to help extract the exhaust.  By lowering the back pressure in the exhaust system, it acted a bit like a supercharger since it increased the delta-P across the cylinder.  Of course, you don't get something for nothing and it would necessarily increase drag by a small amount.

Does anyone else remember this device or have experience with it?  One assumes that it did not work that well otherwise it would still be available. . .

Yes, at the time I though it was a marvelous idea ... but immediately afterwards thought that the location was unlikely to produce the airflow characteristics required.  As gimmicks go, it was more soundly based than most, but still a useless gimmick.

I have recollections of a device from the 1970s called the Car John which allowed you to take a pee whilst driving. The sort of thing that appeared in those tiny advertisements in weekend newspapers. I think it was withdrawn from sale, presumably on the grounds of good taste, impracticality and potential hazards to other road users. Tell me that this really existed and is not just a figment of my surreal imagination.

Reading this site, caused me, yesterday , to order a 12v cigarette lighter plug-in impact wrench.

It was on sale for 60 bucks.

A version or something similar is still around. When you can't pull over to "inspect the tire" or stop at Buc-ee's

4.3 out of 5 stars!

Lady J adapter gets only 3.4 out of 5:

Then there's this:

That is the problem with being addicted to freeways, on a country road, just walk out and fertilize the corn field.

I had those on my 970 Cooper S.
