We are starting this one early, since it seems as if the interest is starting to build-up again, as the inevitability of Verstappen domination doesn't seem strong as it was only few weeks ago. There is chance of 3 different teams going for the win. Or, alternatively always the possibility of Verstappen calmly cruising to pole and winning by 15 seconds again, but it seems just as likely that McLaren or Ferrari might be at the front. The world is changing. There's also other stuff happening at the back. Perhaps Magnussen behaves. And Ocon. Or not.

It's also one of the more popular events on the calendar as it's currently sits as your 7th favorite GP of the year (on my Autosport ranking thread), too!

We do not have the official FIA notes yet, but Redditers have found another good piece in the recent trend of "less asphalt runoff": Which should bring joy to us.

CAN I SEE THE SUPPORT RACES

Why, yes. This year there are no F1600s, historics, Nissans or other specials sadly, the only two support series are Euro marques (same as in Japan). But nevertheless it is probably the two biggest one-make sportscar series in NA that are here. And Ferrari has  new car for the North American series this year, 296 Challenge.

Ferrari Quali + Race sessions are livestreamed on Youtube. The sessions are not yet listed but will be here:

Porsche races are streamed here (or as replays later on Youtube):

Forecast is still too far out to predict with accuracy but overall we can expect it to be grey and wet across several points of the weekend. If it stays as it is by Wednesday then we can expect a very tricky weekend.

Expecting another strong weekend for Ferrari.

Also Vettel wouldn’t always be so laidback at being denied a win as he is here. Worth it because every Sky production head was plainly yelling GET ME PICTURES OF THOSE BIRDS, J Jonah Jameson style, as soon as he mentioned them.

That's great! Apparently, there's been tarmac there since 2013.

From Alonso's onboard you can see there was still grass in 2012.

Not to forget it's Lance Stroll's home race. He has finished in the points in four out of five races there, however never higher than 9th. And the one he didn't score points - he crashed on the opening lap.

Fantastic atmosphere, and an F1 classic, bring it on! There is something I would like to see changed though, and that is the DRS. First of all, the single detection point for two zones is ridiculous and should NEVER be used. Secondly, it's too powerful down the back straight.

I would like to see a new zone added before the hairpin and getting rid of the big one at the back straight. Let's see if we can see some proper outbraking instead of fly-bys.

Yes!

Abolish tarmac runoff from Turn 1-2, 6, 10 and 11-12 next, please...

Turn 6 especially is utterly pointless

For those coming to Montreal late in the week, there is the possibility of a Canadian Customs strike beginning on June 6: A CBSA strike could soon snarl border traffic. Here’s what you need to know (citynews.ca)

Vsssezs.gif

It was very much influenced in 2007, when Anthony Davidson could've achieved the best result of his F1 career and the best ever result for Super Aguri, but hit one of those animals, his wheels locked up, his front wing got damaged and his race was ruined. He was running well ahead of Sato, who eventually finished 6th..

Not if it rains

Riding the kerbs is still important in the wet, and we saw in China that the Red Bull doesn't get heat into the tyres that well. McLaren could come into play..

With grass now added to another chicane, that means all the chicanes apart from the last one have grass. Hopefully they can do similar for the final chicane and turn 1/2.

So youre telling me to boot the wife and kid out of the house and prepare myself for some awesome race? Or will we be looking at a red flagged/delayed race and do I need them to bring me my beer during the wait?

Dunno but its widely used here.

Most of the weather forecast sites use the same model anyway.

Anyway looks like weather is changing right before the weekend. Cold front moving in with lots of precipitation. But maybe too early to tell how much it rains and when.

Before the race week I was hoping for a dry race because top3 teams are so evenly matched. But I wouldnt mind a wet race with light rain

Oh wow, it was Yr.no I used for my post before this too ... Looks like the forecasts are changing a lot.

A race with lots of squally showers would be lovely, never enough to get the red flag out but lots of tyre confusion.

It is his time. It is time for Oscar to ascend to the top step. I can feel it in my bones.

And at the scene of Daniel's first win, too. It would be too, too sweet.

I don't know if anyone else feels similar, but I still can't take McLaren seriously in my mind when I try and predict what will happen for any given race weekend.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way whatsoever, it's just that for some reason the evidence before my eyes isn't sinking in to my brain.

Whenever they turn up at the top of the timesheets I still can't help but think, "oh - McLaren are quick! That's a nice surprise", even though it's pretty obvious beforehand.

I think that's a pretty fair reflection of the general conversation, listening to podcasts etc. And to be honest, I prefer it that way - low expectations and high results  :D

It's when people start predicting McLaren to win that I get nervous.

As for performing better in the wet/cold - I would have said these conditions benefit McLaren more than any other team on the evidence of the past few seasons, however I'm no longer sure that's the case with the latest updates. Hopefully we have an exciting grand prix weekend to find out.

C3, C4, C5

I'm not gonna give more time to Pirelli than that.

Front pressures increased by a laughable 1.5psi versus last year.

What are they protecting the tyres from? There are no fast corners in Montreal. Incredible, really.
