Right, we’re back after the Sprint for the main event, let’s do this. Verstappen on pole after a storming lap yesterday…

Rest of the grid line up like this, after Piastri lost his third place, somewhat controversially, for track limits:

When is this on?

Updated starting grid. Only change: instead of starting at the back, Zhou starts from pitlane.

I'm sorry but this race could be the last straw for me. The last rule changes were to bring the pack closer together which it has achieved. But its done nothing to stop the most dominant car running away with the championship. After today Max could easily sit out 3 complete races and still be in the lead of the championship. That's a phenomenal lead before we've even reached half way in the season.

There's excitement in the pack but we all know who's going to pick up the win - barring unseen circumstances. We were hoping for championship fights, but all that's been achieved is we have swapped one dominant car/driver, Merc/Lewis for another in RB/Max.

Well you still never know what could happen. That's the great thing about racing. I mean Max switched a diff setting in FP and his engine shut down. Not that I want someone else to win via a mechanical failure... but still anything could happen.

But the cars *are* closer together; so driving skill actually matters more. What's you're seeing is the best driver paired up with a car that fits him like a glove, and you see this extraordinary consistency, whilst everybody else swaps position behind, so naturally it will give the illusion of him being more out front when looking at points.

I'm actually really enjoying seeing it. It's still hard to predict the competitive order each weekend, the hardest its been for years.

Based on the sprint race there we already know Verstappen will win, it takes away al the anticipation.

Used to happen all the time, I would have zero issue in cars breaking down 50% of the races, would give all teams chance of surprise high points finishes.

The only way Verstappen does not win is a bad start coupled with a DRS train.

Other than that, it will be a borefest.

So Martin Brundle said on Sky that Andrea Stella showed him a photo of Carlos Sainz in exactly the same place as Oscar. No penalty for Sainz...

Maybe Stella should show it to the Stewards, and now having failed in their appeal simply publish it?

This is one of the issues of not using natural deterrents, inconsistencies.

Looking forward to it, but yes, the sprint has taken away a lot of the anticipation and questions over whether Lando can outpace Max…

It's often the problem that sprints can act as spoilers for the main race. Although at least it is independent as far as qualifying is concerned. I'd like to see them run on different tyre compounds, do a rolling start for the sprint etc - some things so it's not so directly comparable.

LOL!!! I've been watching since 1994 and never before was it this boring.

Ow wow, we now have close racing for positions 6 till 19... Pfff... Because that is what F1 is all about... Close racing for positions 6 till 19... *sigh*

No, it was never THIS boring. I admit 2019 and 2020 were boring, 2002 and 2004 were boring... But nothing compared to the borefest this sport has become under the current regulations combined with a budgetcap.

But luckily the people in F1 want us to believe Max doesn;t have the fastest car anymore... Biggest LOL!!!    All to prevent people from running off again like they did in the Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton days.

Racing has always been about more than first place. Last season got tedious at points, granted, but this year it really is varied and we've had some unpredictable weekends. I do enjoy seeing the battles down the field as much as for first place, though obviously it is always extra spicy if at the front.

Barcelona was good I thought, in this respect.

The budget cap is why we've had the convergence that has occurred. It's not perfect but it's largely a success. McLaren in particular have shown you can still catch up a long way.

The more Max wins the more I dislike him, so I am not biased. I do not think he still has THE best car, he has one of the best cars. Currently McLaren seems to be at the same level. And the truth is that Sergio is being beaten by the Mercedes and the Ferraris driving the same Red Bull as Max and Sergio is a very decent driver. As much as I dislike it, Max is making the difference.

“I did a pretty good lap, not amazing,” said Norris. “It felt a bit trickier today for wind and conditions, and we dropped back relatively closer to Merc and Ferrari than yesterday.

"I did a better lap yesterday, so there are one or two tenths from my side [missing] but not enough to trouble Max. They were way quicker than we could have done.”

Just a heads-up, todays Tor de France goes by the town of Imola and will use half a lap of the track.

Aw, it will never cease to be nice that Logan and Oscar always end up standing together at these things.

They have done Yuki absolutely dirty parking him next to Alex, though.
