It is race day here in Sunny blighty!

You know how the Tour de France started life as a campaign to boost French tourism? At times I suspect the British GP is designed to do the reverse. Still, with the chance of further showers of rain today, could be an interesting race for the strategists to call. George Russell will start from pole, alongside Lewis Hamilton, with Lando on row two, rest lining up like this:

Pirelli Tyre Talk

(Posted yesterday, obviously)

In tomorrow's #BritishGP if, as forecast, it should rain and the track is wet throughout, all the teams have sufficient sets of Intermediates and Wets to run a two-stop race. If it’s dry, then a one-stop is quickest on paper, with all three compounds being viable.

When is it on?

3PM for some reason.

Weather forecasts in the thread as it's showers forecast, so something of a moving target. Enjoy the race, especially if you're reading this from the grandstands!

Oh no, I’m so sorry! Now I have to perform surgery on the poll.

Or on his car. Whichever's easier.

Ah, the British bias race of the season. I'm told the admins will mute the next person that utters "British bias" on this forum for one month. :p

fwiw, this is the bbc south west local weather forecaster who is also a keen F1 fan:

@fergieweather

0951BST: It's the @Formula2 Feature Race up next, with air temp currently 13.5C & track 20.2C. A light shower passing over the circuit now, but quickly clearing. FIA official risk of rain is 70% for this event.

F2 race starting dry but a good chance of a heavy rain shower skimming the track during the race. The larger band of rain looks like it will pass slightly further North but there will be more showers during the rest of the day.

Expecting scattered rain during the race, the last 2 days in the UK have been like that it seems and it would create an extra element to an already fantastic grid.

I think Lando will win, which would be cool, but I kinda want Lewis to bag a home win after years of being off the top step.

Whatever happens, a Brit win would be great.

He would have to pass 3 Britishmen on track at their home race to do that. Unless Hannah Schmidt can come up with a nice undercut strategy, I suspect all 3 of them will fight tooth and nail with Verstappen, for King and country.

1056BST: As the F2 Feature Race ends, a number of showers ranging from 15 to 50 minutes away are lining-up on trajectories towards the circuit.

Do F1 have a rule in place that a race starts at 3pm local time? As normally here in the UK we are an hour behind Europe so our races start at 2pm… anyway that extra hour wait is killing me!!

No, because not every daytime race starts at 3pm local time (eg COTA is 2pm local time, as is Mexico, just to give 2 examples)

It's killing you. It makes the race start at midnight for some of us!

I really miss the 1PM starts - waking up at 11am on a sunday morning, chilling, cooking sunday dinner timed perfectly to start tucking in with a cold one as the formation lap gets underway.... now I have to spend time with family :(

The 10pm start was so nice. Race would usually be done by midnight and I'd be tucked nicely into bed.

I think all three Brits are going to trip over each other.

I still have Oscar win vibes. I can picture him mugging everyone into T1, Hungary 23 style.

It’s absolutely pissing down at Vale. Historic F1 cars not bothering now - too expensive to wreck in the rain

Yeah, the reliable forecasts are trending to a dry afternoon. Dry race I think!

Rain more likely than not tends to ruin things these days anyway, with the way that the FIA are so risk averse.

From Ian Fergusson (BBC forecaster):

Yes, much better chance of sunny spells for race window but moderate risk of showers (current FIA assessment is 60%, tbc before race)

Granted I’m 150 miles from Silverstone, but the weather in the UK is a bit crazy today. I was just out in the car and it was the type of downpour where you need to start almost crawling on the motorway because the visibility is so bad. Now it is glorious sunshine and blue sky. All it needs is one of those showers to hit the circuit to cause chaos.

Even if it does stop raining fairly soon, I think with the low temps and no track action after the Porsches I'd be surprised if it's bone dry by race start.

I think he already had a new UP for the weekend, did they just decide to add an extra one to the pool considering his P19?
