He has a very big chance. I can see the RB dropping back even more. We have had every type of track from Miami till now and they were never fastest. Verstappen is on his worst streak since 2020 and hasn't lost 3 races in a row in the current e

Spa is a Max track though.  We'll not have long to wait to find out.

Today it was a bit of a surprise just how slow they were in the middle sector.  Could not live with the McLaren's there, and even the Merc was holding on through that sector.  Max did seem to have a degree of understeer, so perhaps something that can be resolved with setup.

Spa seems like it should be a shoe-in for Max if it is dry. All the other teams are saying how quick the RBR is in a straight line and it loves high speed corners.

Is this the first time that all 3 drivers on the podium all got there maiden win with the same team?

That's great post mate, well said. 3 McLaren super stars on podium together :)

Mildly interesting race with a bizarre ending.

Hmmm, the stats thread may like this one.

I just checked if Ricciardo, Vettel and Max ever shared a podium between 2016 and 2018. Surprisingly they didn't. Not sure if it's the first time ever this happened, but probably the first time this decennia.

I asked this question in the stats thread and was told by Bleu that there have been other occasions, such as Austria 1997, with Villeneuve-Coulthard-Frentzen.

Max blaming Lewis for their collision really takes the biscuit

Nico Rosberg not having any of it! :)

Max's team radio was disgraceful...so disrespectful. Yes I know Lewis moans on the radio but nothing like that...Max's language was shocking.

Are you sure? I can remember some spicy onboard radios of Lewis throwing his own team under the bus.

What's happening with Alonso? I assume this is after qualifying and I'm not sure if this has been covered, but he's pissed.

There must be something in the water there. Max was also pissed this weekend. I never seen Max as pissed as today and now this. Weird. Maybe it is good that they have a vacation soon.

Yuki's red flag screwing his lap after it was discussed they would do double yellows in such incidents to not screw laps of drivers past the incident

Being called to parc ferme after red flag then having the session continued after he had left the car (iirc)

Had to be weighed in again after the session ended even though he didn't restart after the flag (lmao)

Yea he was pretty pissed

Vettel got his first win for Toro Rosso so it wouldn't count anyway. :p

Alesi-Barrichello-Irvine Canada 1995, I guess Irvine and Barrichello were future so this might not count.

He's toxic, nothings changed.
If I was Stroll I'd sack him if that's team personnel he is treating like that, he doesn't seem to be performing or bringing anything to the table anyway.

I don't ever remember Lewis swearing at the team. Saying stuff like "why did you put me on these tyres, man" is mild compared to the stuff Max was coming out with today.

You know, I feel that Anthony looks like a very dignified gentleman and that's how he raised his boy.
Jos created a superhero, but he is a person with lot of anger issues and I guess Max does what he knows.
Armchair psychology, I could be wrong. But we know that Jos was a very bad boy in the past.

I have the feel that he should have become a WEC legend and not return in F1. But what do I know.

I've never heard Lewis as whiny as Max was after the race, either.  Telling his critics to eff off.  Max just lost his cool today.  I am guessing Spa will go better for him.

How many times is he going to keep falling out with his teams like this? Throwing his clothes to the floor like that and then expecting his team personnel to pick it up? It isn't defensible behaviour.

Oh throwing clothes to the floor is falling out now?  :cat:

Alonso's been a consumate professional at Aston Martin, he's allowed an outburst after an especially poorly managed and bad-luck filled session.

No, throwing clothes to the floor is not a classy act, but it didn't occur out of the blue. If you read up on what happened to him that session, you'd realize he was angry enough to justify throwing clothes on the ground specifically to prove how angry he was lol.

"[Erik van Haren] Lambiase told Verstappen that the medical delegate should check him again. Verstappen: 'Let them send that medical delegate to the stewards to see if they are okay. I'm completely fine."

If I've read that right Max was smack talking the stewards along the lines they are mentally deranged and gotten away with it.

It's an FIA official, not a member of his team.  And I'd have had him pick them up himself.  :D

Will probably go more in-depth in the other thread but just a point on each of the main race incidents to me:

  • Max/Lando into turn 1 was a bit on the fence for me. Balance of it all, right thing in the end, as Max gained a little bit too much off track.
  • racing incident for Max/Lewis - it looked bad on the first showing, but can clearly see the 'moving under braking' that Max referenced, so I can understand where he's coming from. Combination of Davidson's analysis + stewards report susms it up to me
  • Lando seems like one of those people who are an absolute child in the car, but at least has the composure to see things clearly afterwards

Was a bit disgusted at the post-race coverage from Sky though - bringing Max into discussion for some thing just... so they could pile it onto someone? One example is they were just talking about the team dynamics at McLaren on the little stage (Naomi, Nico and Simon), and Simon just blurts out "well.... would Max have swapped positions?"
Also Naomi's little outburst over Max's "Go Home" comments, as if they were aimed at the team. Was quite clearly a comment directed at 'snowflake' fans, not members of the team. I do understand the backlash he is getting for his radio-behaviour in Hungary, but very thrown off Sky's continued tendency to just have every issue be a Max Verstappen punching bag.

Not exactly my point... At least what Naomi said (even if I don't agree with her) had relevancy.

Lazenby's little interjection didn't.

Oh yeah, you’re right. I forgot his Monza master class.

Another fun weird stat: all drivers from the Alpine 2022 line up (including reserve driver Piastri) got their maiden F1 race win at Hungary. Not sure that ever happened.

You did say you were "disgusted" that sky had the temerity to speak about Max having a radio meltdown, and you recognize that Max is going too far. Sky sports reporters can do the same, right?

Fwiw, I agree with the majority of your bullet points.

His race engineer called him "childish" complete break there!

This is a misconception. He wasn't calling max childish. He was doing his usual snide remarks towards merc implying they are childish.

Maxs race engineer is just as toxic. He loves his childish snide remarks over radio. In fact he's always done it more than most.

Lando has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about lewis success. Lewis should have just turned around and said its not quite as easy to win races with the fastest car is it....

As I elaborated a bit later, I can understand Naomi's points (eventually).

Interjecting a backhand at him for something irrelevant just to seemingly have a go at him (Lazenby when speaking about the McLaren orders) is the kind of thing that always irritates me though. It wasn't a discussion of "every driver is selfish, etc"

RE the "childish" radio message from GP to Max, am I the only one who thinks it's being misinterpreted by the masses?

The assumed line is that GP was calling Max childish for complaining on the radio, but I don't think it was this at all. I don't think GP would dare say this.

What I think was happening is GP was calling back to the opening lap with Lando/McLaren complaining about T1, perhaps with Andrea Stella's post-Austria comments also in mind, indirectly trying to take a shot at their rivals.

Max and GP have developed a "Me and You Against The World" attitude in recent years, which has led me to this conclusion. It fits in nicely.

Not just you but I took it to be GP learning that, after Austria, blindly supporting your driver can end up making you look stupid.

Ironically, Bono & Lewis ;-)

As for the collision...

Max out of control

Lewis has a Biden moment and turns in too early

Racing incident so long as both keep going ...of course outcome has no bearing on penalty ;-)
