The FIA put Alonso’s car in Park Ferme in Hungary quali because they thought it was the F1 film car?

So apparently they FIA people got confused because the F1 movie car was in parc ferme, and that's why they sent Alonso and Stroll there, and Alonso was weighted twice. No wonder why he was angry

Edit: I didn't create this thread, it was originally a message in the Aston Martin thread. But thanks to the mods for creating one, makes of course sense to discuss separately.

But did this happen once the session was over, or did he miss a flying lap opportunity because of this?

Also, how does this incident relate to being weighted twice?

I'm not really understanding what happened there and why was ALO so pissed...

You'd think this sort of thing would be easy to sort by forcing teams to put big visible numbers in contrasting colours on the cars...

Stop with the sensible suggestions. This is F1.

I don’t think it’s clear either. I’m hoping we can all crack this case together!

There was a moment before the cars went out right at the end of quali (after the red flag), when you could see Alonso walking up towards the FIA part of the pitlane...I thought that was rather odd at the time - no idea if it was a replay or something though.

Alonso lost his chance to improve his time when Tsunoda crashed. With the double weighing, he lost any chance to get back to the front of the queue for the restart. He had every right to be furious because he's hyper competitive and passionate.

As the comments wonder, could it be that the officials thought the red flag meant the session would not restart ? I.e. they knew who he was and thought they were putting them into park ferme for real for that reason?

From the commentary, I believe this was as he came into the pits after the red flag.

Maybe. The thing is, they probably got confused because there was already a car in parc ferme (the F1 movie car), so it felt logical to put also the other upcoming cars there.

Incredible.

Yup. Fake parc ferme waving at real F1 cars. In the brief video, no other cars come down pit lane. Curious as to what directions the other cars got. Wonder if this will be investigated.

I think the issue was not that the mistook it for a film car, the issue was red flag with 2 minutes to go and officials assumed that the session will not restart. Seeing how some drivers also exited their cars and didn't participate in the rest of the session, it is easy to understand why they thought that.

It does look amateurish but no real harm was done.

Yeah, there was only 2:13 left and there must have been some confusion as to whether the session would be resumed. The film car had nothing to do with it.

It would have been interesting to know what was said on Alonso's team radio, but neither Aston Martin car's radio was available in the F1TV onboards. (This happens sometimes. For example, Ollie Bearman's radio was missing in the early part of the Saudi Arabian GP.)

And next: Brad Pitt accidentally gets into Alonso's car and starts a Grand Prix.

Or Alonso gets into the Pitt GP2 engined car, and has his best ever race, hardest fought victory ever.

Alonso: ”GP2 engine… GP2… AARGH”
Engineer: ”Um, yes, Fernando, there’s a reason for that. Oh, and Brad says can he have it back, please?”

Definitely not. This was on purpose to include Aston Martin and Alonso into the shot. They even got directed to that position by a FIA employee.

Curious that Alonso wasn't aware of it. Or maybe he was but he felt it came at a bad timing and there were more important things to do, with the session not officially ended.

Well at least Alonso fans in Fake Park Fermé were much luckier than those poor fellows from Croydon still waiting for Lewis :D

Yeah, I saw that. Not all investigations are negative (not implying you said they are). MIles749 has a reasonable interpretation of the situation. I might have missed an actual explanation of why it occurred.
