Spa 2024

Well, we made it kids - this latest marathon stetch of races is nearly at an end and the summer break stretches invitingly before us. Before that, there is, of course, the tiny matter of today's race. Yesterday Verstappen stormed to first place but will start nearer the back thanks to a grid penalty due to taking a new engine. They line up today thus:

What are the tyres

Oh, I don't know. Seems ludicrously difficult to find out these days. If anyone knows a guy with the inside track do share in the comments

#F1#BELGIANGPWeather Update: The race will be dry. Bone dry. There is no chance of rain. People on TV keep saying "You never know what's going to happen with the weather in the Ardennes. You're more likely to win the lottery than predict correctly here." That's nonsense.

Confidence! You love to see it.

When's it on?

I also wonder if there will be a repeat of the twist on the traditional ceremony of performing the National Anthem where instead the challenge was to see if any of the drivers can resist giggling at something they are plainly told they must observe with solemn dignity, always dignity.  Last year, Belgium achieved some impressive scalps.

Enjoy the race!

Can someone share the graph showing tyre availability of each team for the race?

The bookies have Lando and Max as joint favourites to win the race at 2/1 each.

Interestingly, Leclerc is 6th favourite to win despite being on pole. You don't see that too often.

He won't, when it stays dry.

Difficult one this.

Leclerc, Perez and Hamilton have minor chances if McLaren and Max arent overwhelmingly quicker. Norris/Piastri should be the favourites IMO as I dont expect Verstappen on a dry track to be quick enough to beat them from P11.

In terms of favourite it's probably Max, Norris, Perez, then Oscar with an outside chance, and the Ferraris and Mercs needing some good fortune to be in the top three.

Heres the tyres and strategy guide.

Last year seems S-M-S for a lot of drivers.

DRS is still very strong on the Kemmel Straight, shouldn't be too hard for Verstappen to catch up but as always needs to he careful on Lap 1 to stay out of trouble.

Higher downforce (slightly) might help protect against the graining that was seen in FP1/2

When was the last time we had an SC. SC throwing a curve ball might make things interesting.

Otherwise I don't believe Max (or anyone else) can challenge the McLarens. But the grid order surely guarantees some entertainment :rotfl:.

I have a feeling lap 1 is going to be a dramatic one that shapes the course of the race.

Max won't survive lap one without damage.

And it won't even be his fault.

La Source will be critical at the start, will they play nice with Verstappen in the mid pack? And will Perez feel dizzy starting so high up again? All will be revealed very soon and I can’t wait.

Why dont you want to have a race? Rain means no meaningful race (behind SC) at best..See yesterdays F2 sprint or 2021 F1.

Max can afford to play it safe on the first lap. Higher down force should help tyre wear & won’t be a hindrance with drs on the straights.

I think both McLaren are favourites in dry track with low DF config.

Surely Max will be third.

I reckon Lewis Hamilton will take some blame.

Rain does not = Safety car.

Rain does = no DRS

Rain does = talent win over equipment

My prediction is that something will happen between the McLaren's and Mercedes' into La Source resulting in damage/DNF for one or more of them.

Rain does not = Safety car.

In todays F1 Rain* means race behind Safety Car™.

*) As opposed to a wet track or few drops.

PSC is an absolute joke sometimes, I think only half the grid actually stuck between the white lines in the first 4 corners…

I could see Perez getting too desperate in his fight for survival and crashing with Leclerc and/or Hamilton.

With this in mind, my fear is that Pérez will go for an all-or-nothing move to try to take the lead like Mexico last year. Pole feels like a poisoned chalice here for Leclerc.

I think on the contrary he will be careful as not to torpedoe his last chance..on first corner!
He is got everything to lose unlike Leclerc..if he is out by first lap by evening that Mondays meeting will be canceled, on account of it being unnecessary!
