In a classic silly season piece, as if to amuse us during the downtime of the summer break, Autosprint have a piece about Lawrence Stroll making the moves to not only secure Adrian Newey but also intends to land the sport’s hottest property, Max Verstappen!

https://autosprint.c..._aston_martin/2

To be honest, I’m not sure how reliable this is. However, exciting if true! If it is, he joins the very obvious attempts by Toto to get Max punching the clock at Brackley.

I am curious what everyone would like to see happen here, so speak your brains. Let us know what you hope is going to happen and share your workings. I mean me, I hope he goes to Mercedes because otherwise I presume Fernando gets given a gold carriage clock, a pat on the back and his p45 but who cares what I think? Maybe you don’t think he should go anywhere! Either way, the mic is yours.

It would be entertaining to see him at a team with some problems and weaknesses, and watch him lead them to a better place - so I'd vote for Red Bull. It would be sad if he ended up in a hopeless team. He's the best in the World and should have a decent set of wheels.

he gets to drive where he wants and he should take best advantage of that.
Exhibit A is Lewis who had a superb career and made the right choices.

Exhibit B is Fernando who clearly had more in him than what turned out delivered.

Where will Max land?

I’d like him to stay in think. It would be interesting if he moved, and having seen Lewis and Schumacher making their big moves at a similar point in their careers, it’s the kind of big box office move that kind of changes the whole narrative of a generation of F1.

The risk is clearly that he’d dominate and we’d all be utterly sick of him within a couple of years. I think that’s maybe more likely with Mercedes than it is with Red Bull - and if that’s what Max and Jos are thinking too that’s why I think it might actually happen.

What would also be interesting is seeing what Red Bull would do to regroup. It would be fascinating but potentially paving the way for a period of domination a la Lewis and Schumi.

But at the moment Red Bull’s dominance is ending and we have it all poised nicely with McLaren and Mercedes back on an upward trajectory. I know it all changes for 2026 anyway, but I like things as they are right now.

Max needs to move to Mercedes in 2025 simply to make sure his input gets considered for the 2026 regs.

Voted "Somewhere else" in "2025" - that somewhere else would be Haas, as i would like to see how well he can polish a turd.

Why not send him to the actual turd; Sauber?

Mercedes, because he will be out of his comfort zone. It would be a shame if he follows Newey to Aston Martin.

I think Max's essential chippiness needs to be respected and cherished so Aston Martin might be a good fit. On the other hand it might be entertaining seeing the clash of personalities at Mercedes.

I suspect he's most likely to head to Merc if he does decide to leave Red Bull.  Being reunited with Newey and Honda at Aston Martin may be appealing too though.  And AM will need a big name once Alonso decides to retire.

Kinda what I was thinking. If he wants a challenge, then take on a challenge. And if he wants to be in control, I don’t think he would get much pushback against anything he wants to do.
There it is.
A perfect fit.
Destiny.
Come on over to the dark, I mean cheap side.

I rate Verstappen as the best driver on the grid.

Williams is my favourite team.

Well, you can see where this is going. :rotfl:

But realistically, I don't care that much at the moment, especially since Red Bull is not dominating anymore.

most of the the top drivers/champions in last 25 years ended up driving there anyway. With the exception of Button and Rosberg I think.

Aston Martin Honda - paired with Alonso. Not good enough car for 25, so can wait until 26.

For Mercedes with George Russell as his teammate. Mercedes will be a completely new environment. I'm curious to see how he adapts to a new environment and how he gets on with a teammate like Russell. I don't want to see him go to Aston Martin.

It's hard to know how good he is as a leader behind the scenes as we don't get much of a glimpse. Thay said, from what we've seen he doesn't appear to have many leadership qualities ala Schumacher.

I get the feeling that Max doesn’t really care about the ‘allure’ of Ferrari…or the sport in general, to be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him retire from F1 far earlier than he could.

I'm torn but voted Mercedes & 2025. I don't think he will though, but if he wants to win as much as possible I think ahead of the new regulations, Mercedes is still the safest bet. They finally seem to have understood the ground effect cars and how to optimize them, and I am sure their PU will be very strong come 2026. It's a no brainer really. AM might be good eventually but Newey will need time (if he indeed goes to AM) and Honda might also need a few years to completely nail the PU (speaking from past history).

RedBull I don't think will be as bad as some thing, but the PU is a huge unknown of course. So if he wants to have the best shot at the best car, my money is on Mercedes. However,  I think there's a good chance he stays at RedBull for at least 2025 and probably 2026 as well - and if the car is at least in the mix he'll likely see out his contract.

I’m no fan of Stroll Jr but the prospect of Verstappen replacing Alonso at Aston one day would mark one of the most difficult sequence of teammates that any driver could ever have. Vettel-Alonso-Verstappen.

If I were GR I'd be eyeing up Aston.

Mercedes have zero future for George if they chase Verstappen.

GR would probably be a number 1 target at that point for what's available as Antonelli gets the other seat.

Good lord, you joke but a 50m a year deal is cheaper than an entry fee, they'd probably waive it.

Genius.

I think a Russell-Verstappen swap in 2026 is the most likely scenario here, unless Antonelli truly flops next year.

Red Bull will need a top driver after Verstappen and on the market there will be only Russell and Sainz.

2026 to Aston alongside Alonso.

Stroll to WEC

All three for Le Mans

Then bring back Stroll (as 2026 WEC champion) for 2027 assuming Alonso is ready to retire / move back to WEC.

He’s already achieved everything and is clearly the best in the field so I’d like to see him go to Wlliams and have some fun seeing how far up he could get it every weekend.

On a serious note, Mercedes makes sense for 2026 with Antonelli - one of the greatest of all time vs one of the most anticipated of all time in a 2 car WDC battle.  Box office.

Replacing Alonso, as I can’t imagine Stroll being left out.
