Sargeant out for Monza?

Not sure how much truth there is to this?

I don’t think it will be Liam Lawson, it would be a Mercedes contracted driver, so Schumacher is most likely but Mick has had his fair share of expensive crashes as well! Lol

Wasn't Vowles seen in the Merc motorhome? Might be nothing, but the most sense would be Antonelli.

Antonelli makes sense. Merc would happily pay to see how he gets on in an F1 car so they could see if he is worth a go next year in their car.

JV is cosy with Wolff and obviously the team have a close relationship with Merc.

I think Wolff has said he doesn’t want to put any extra pressure on Antonelli and just let him finish his season in F2. FP1 sessions will be enough experience for Kimi this year.

Wolff has pretty much already confirmed Antonelli will be in for Mercedes next year, so I think it's entirely in Mercedes' interest to try to get Antonelli into Williams for the rest of the season so he can get up to speed. The question is if Williams will go for it.

Hopefully. Williams would be better off as a one-car team, really. The second seat is just a waste of resources.

Wouldn't this put unnecessary pressure on Antonelli though?

True, teams are contracted to run 2 cars except under conditions of force majoré where a second car or an appropriate driver is not available or time restraints would not allow a 2nd driver to take the seat.

Although Williams could argue that Logan is a danger to other drivers, Marshall’s, the circuit and fans! Lol

On the contrary, I think it'd take the pressure off of him. Going from F2 straight into a potentially front-running Mercedes seat is surely going to be a lot of pressure; letting him settle in with low expectations for the rest of the year at Williams would at least allow him to get to grips with F1 without anybody expecting miracles from him.

He’ll be doing FP1 in Monza anyway so will have an F1 license.

Well it wasn't his first choice, but the team have have been showing steady progress, and in the right hands they will get some good results.

Playing devils advocate though would people be expecting him to be on the pace of Albon (who is solid but unspectacular) far quicker than Russell?

Go with Mick, one more chance, if he stays close to Albon regularly it would be a nice redemption arc. If not, at least we can definitely say he had enough chances.

Has one of the big teams finally realized Logan's talent and pushed immediately to get him in their car? Who's out? Sainz? Hamilton? Perez?

I have a suspicion it was HIS first choice as I suspect that HE rejected potential offers from other teams that might have been better choices.

I get your point, but there are two sides to it. With all the hype, people might be expecting him to match Albon from the very beginning, don't you think?

I agree though that if we disregard the element of fan expectations, it would be a great opportunity for him to familiarize himself to F1 ahead of his first proper season. It doesn't always work that way though!

Agree.

Is it not an open secret Audi had a contract in front of him, that they patiently waited for him to sign and return to him? He is where he chose to be, since obviously neither Mercedes nor Red Bull saw any reason to hire a Coulthard clone.

If this happens, I think Monza is too early. Singapore is then more likely.

That being said; I think the bloke finishes the season.

If Kimi was a bit older with a bit more experience I’d say put him in. As it is, I think he should finish what he started in F2 and if he is signed to Merc, go through a full pre season. It also does little to help Williams’ problem of getting the second car up the grid.

I think Logan has to go and Williams needs the second up there supporting Albon and taking places off its rivals. I think they should bring Mick in

It seems to me like he chose Williams purely because they gave him a deal that allowed him to leave more easily than Audi or Alpine.

As has been written already, Mick Schumacher has had plenty of expensive crashes himself, so would he be a step up??
Steiner got fed up with Schumacher crashing. Exactly the same as Vowles with Sargeant, apparently.

I take your point. Mercedes would need to manage expectations in the media, making clear that Antonelli's job is simply to learn the ropes and keep the car on the road rather than get results. Antonelli seems to have a good head on his shoulders, so I don't think he'd be concerned about being beaten by Albon in a situation like this.

No, but in this case he's under a Mercedes contract currently. They even loaned him to McLaren for a test, so they're (Merc) obviously willing to spend money to keep him involved in F1 in some way.

Sainz himself said he saw at Williams what he saw at McLaren when he was there, a team on the rise with high ambitions and Vowles obviously gave him a. Good sales pitch too!

This narrative is annoying. Logan doesn't endanger anyone else. Only himself. He hasn't taken anyone else out in a year. Wheel to wheel he's quite clean.

Putting Antonelli in - a complete rookie - would surely still be pretty risky in terms of potential car damage?

Schumacher has experience but was prone to binning it as well.

This was foreseeable very early in the season, once it became clear that his performances hadn't stepped up. If anything, this decision has come quite late. Antonelli should get the seat.

He's done it twice, actually.

Anyway, he drove just the race to respond today. Clean, decent pace, defended like a beast. Kept Tsunoda behind in DRS for 30 laps.

The FIA F3 season ends at Monza. So after Monza, Prema could promote Arvid Lindblad to F2 to replace Antonelli, who could replace Sargeant at Williams for the final eight rounds. (They could make the swap before Monza as well, but then Lindblad wouldn't have a chance to win the F3 title.)

He finished a pitstop behind Albon……..I’m intrigued how that can be considered decent pace

Albon had much faster tyres at the end and Logan was rather busy defending. It was still decent.

Because he did an extra pit stop and still finished a pit stop ahead….meaning Sargeant was averaging 0.6-0.7 deficit every lap.

Again, to claim that was decent pace would make Chemical Ali blush.
