It’s Race Day at Monza! Safety Cars notwithstanding, usually the shortest race of the season so even if it’s not a stunner, well, at least it’s over quickly. But let’s hope for more as Lando Norris aims to take another bite out of Verstappen’s lead.

Oh and hats off to Giorgio Piola!

@andrewbensonf1

The brilliant, unique, unsurpassed technical artist journalist Giorgio Piola is celebrating his 900th Grand Prix (although he says it may actually be three or four more). First race Monaco 1969, aged 19. And he’s been presented with a special pass by the FIA. Legend.

7th starting spot is a pretty scary place here for the first chicane, but I think Verstappen will still manage another damage limitation run of sorts, I think 3rd is possible.

Ferrari-Merc shift of power is the biggest question mark in race trim

That's right, Martin

There were 3 SCs in the 15 lap Porsche race... would've been 4 had they not run out of time

What happened to good old silver cups? They look like something you rest your pizza on.

Cool. I wonder what they are representative of: Carbon nano-tubes? Fishing nets? Pasta?

Hoping for Oscar to get the jump on Lando at the start, to potentially give McLaren some headaches with regards to the championship.

Don’t fancy an easy Lando lights to flag victory.

The worst thing for the race will be both McLarens through turn 1 in first and second. I fear that would be race over.

I’d actually love some turn 1 drama as long as Max survives.

Now that there's a whisper of a championship fight, today's grand prix has a little extra feeling to it. Start will be exciting.

Looking forward to this one, so many storylines up and down the field but I’ll save you the NBC IndyCar prologue run down.

I’m hoping for a Leclerc win but the McLaren’s are the class of the field right now but stranger things have happened here in the past…

Giorgio has been very instrumental in me beginning to get interested into racing in general. His drawings did catch my eye when I was young and immediately I was drawn to the complexity of racing cars.

Good to see him being a knowledged and appreciated like this.

I mean there is no headache, McLaren stated this week that Piastri is now #2 and would be ordered to move over in such a scenario,

Have they? Do you have a quote for that? All I can see is Zak Brown saying they ‘will review’ during the weekend but want the cars to race…

Hmm, cool fun fact about Alesi winning on his 30th birthday, from fifth on the grid, for Ferrari, in Monza.
Sainz turns 30 today and lines up fifth.

This from the designer, I've no intention of speculating as to what he may be on.

From the designer, Andrea Sala:

“The ideation and concept for the trophy resulted from a series of site visits to many areas of the Pirelli world, from R&D departments, to the production process to discover more about the world of tyres, from the natural rubber to the materials used in their construction, as well as looking through the Pirelli Foundation archive,” explained Sala. “The name VROOOM captures what I wanted to represent, namely the image of Formula 1 I have always had since I was a child: the start, the cars lined up on the grid, the lights going out and the sprint down to the first corner. The trophy transforms this moment – the starting point for everything, the sprint, the speed – into a sculpture."

Prediction...

GR lightning start with Piastri. Norris to drop, Piastri flying.

Mclaren left with another team order saga. Piastri plays ball.

Lewis P3.

Those trophies look like what gets left after a rogue 3D print goes wrong. Horrendous.

Or if Xibit from pimp my ride made knuckle dusters. Yo I heard you like knuckle dusters so we added knucke dusters to each knuckle so we got a giant knuckle duster with knuckle dusters on each of your knuckles. (Oh and cause you like TVs and hot tubs there's a screen and hot tub on the back).

For all the talk of increased tyre wear, I still think this’ll be a one-stopper, but maaaaybe the heat together with fast pace will push it into a two-stopper for some.

Perhaps this is a red herring, but the dynamics of this grid are reminding me of Singapore in 2017. A lot is riding on this race in terms of momentum in the championship.

Isn't the pit lane loss one of the biggest of the season? I think they'll all be one stopping. Hoping for some Lewis magic somehow.

Yup, and not just the 23-24 secs lost, but relatively the loss is “bigger” when the circuit has such high avg speed

Will Buxton is uncharismatic, he always seems out of breath and anxious, he's often lost for words. Isn't there a better guy to do the F1TV gridwalks?
