Mendig Airfield circuit was 3.59 km long and used for German national races from 1969-1971. Does anyone have a map of the circuit? It is reasonably easy to find a picture of the airstrip, but a contemporary map of the track is more difficult!

A most imaginative track layout, indeed... Driving there must have been such fun.

Did you read the accompanying text (under "Rekonstruktion der Rennstrecke")?

A cruel joke, was my first response when I saw the layout - four straights linked by four tight left hand corners, and all of it interspersed by three chikanes! But reading through the second link that LittleChris provided, I realised that because of the length it was decently fast.
There seems to have been unusually many airfield races held in post WWII in what was then West Germany compared to most other countries in Europe. Hockenheimring was the only dedicated race circuit; Nürburgring and AVUS was established as joint test and race tracks, while Solitude and Norisring joined as temporary street circuits. Of the many airfields, like Mendig some lasted a few years, but others like Diepholz and Wunstorf became annually events for decades.

The map is inaccurate, Darren. Read the German text.
