So I got in touch with Lego Customer support about the Williams FW14B tyres.

- They said unfortunately they can't sell those pieces separately outside of the kit
- They advised me to go over to Bricklink and buy them from there

I have them wishlisted on bricklink already, but so far haven't had any notification on anyone having any available for sale. Might be a tricky one to figure out how to upgrade the McLaren kit

I will 3d print them.

I even got flexible TPU-filament, even if not needed here, as they are not going to drive anywhere.

I got the FW14B and the Williams Speed Champions the other day, very happy with them both!

Smyths (uk) reduced a couple packs already (not checked to see if it’s actual cheaper or just less than the RRP)

Same! When I started this thread, I didn't think there'd be quite as many Lego fans on this forum.

Great to see. Hopefully all the sets are selling well - and I'm really interested to how this partnership continues to develop. Would love to see more classic cars get the Lego treatment, collectable driver minifigures, and what about a Lego Racers/F1 Race Stars inspired game too?! I played the hell out of these in my younger days.

The F1 LEGO is everywhere… hope it’s selling well

They should tender for the next tyre supplier - they are the worlds biggest manufacturer of tyres after all

For those of you in the UK, Asda are selling the Senna Mclaren MP4/4 for £50 at the moment. It's a really good deal.

The Williams FW14b has arrived. Looks really good.
Also ordered the sticker set from mattsbrickmocs. That one is due to arrive any day now.

Stickers arrived yesterday, so started building today. Results speak for themselves. Wonderful stuff by Mattsbrickmocs and fantastic service too. I dare to go as far as saying these stickers are even better quality compared to the Lego ones.
He also sells the MP4/4 sticker set with tobacco sponsorship as well as other Lego motorsports stickersets.

Anywho, the result;

Not sure if they still are doing it, but Lego stores were doing a free mini Lego f1 steering wheel (no purchase necessary)

After work, I made the incredibly stupid decision of stepping into a toy store just to have a look at things.

... I walked out with a Williams FW14 to build

And now, of course Ayrton has had to join Nigel... Although I keep thing that if Ron Dennis was still running McLaren, he would have made sure that all of the Lego branding on the bricks would face the same direction once the MP4/4 was built

My mum sent me a message this morning asking what I wanted for my birthday, or were beer vouchers ok. Sent her a link to the Lego FW14b and I now have a delivery before 10pm tonight. Gonna be hard not to open it before my actual birthday.

Lego over beer vouchers is a pretty solid endorsement!

Does anybody know if Lego sell appropriate rear wheels for the Senna MP4/4? How it got commercialized with those tiny rear wheels is beyond comprehension?

Let me not tell you how awesome it is. Also let me not tell you that it would make for a perfect desk ornament.

It'll go nicely next to my Lego Optimus Prime.

The box arrived earlier, not opening it until my actual birthday for two reasons:
1 - It's not my birthday yet
2 - It'll wind up wife and daughter that I'm not opening it.

Beer comes and goes (usually in one end and out the other), I can't justify that spend in one go, but piecemeal on the beer is ok. Can't buy the lego bag by bag.

I took a 'Group C' car that I built in 1983 out of a box recently. It currently sits on a shelf next to a BMW LMDH and a Ferrari 512M   ;)

Can you post your  'Group C"  ?

I have one standing on the shelf too, Beri can testify that it is a bit illegally (I used glue on four spots in order to get a not too thick underwing) but I think it's looking good.

Got home from the shops this evening to see an Amazon delivery at the front door. I've not ordered anything, not expecting anything else. Assume it's for me for my birthday, take inside and leave as its not my birthday yet.

Anyway, just checked something on the work chat, my boss let's me know that a parcel has arrived and it's an Easter present, but I should open it now, ok, you're the boss...

Lego Speed Champions Williams FW46, thank you boss, Ness and I will have fun building that over the weekend.

Going to have to clear some space in office room!

It's amazing that a company like Lego creates expensive reproduction kits of F1 cars with the wrong tyre dimensions and stickers instead of printed blocks and get away with it.
I had the intention of building the Senna McLaren, but put it back in the store shelf as soon as I saw the price and those incredible injust rear tyres.

I know Lego has superior build quality, but if you see what the competition can offer for a much lower price, it's clear quantity goes over quality for the Lego company nowadays  :

The Williams fw14b looks stunning in person and also on the photos in this thread. I prefer the looks of an actual mp4/4 to this Williams, but as a Lego model this is far superior.
I already see it on sale for around 55 euros which is a good price, so will be getting one soon.

Regarding Kick Sauber, yep, I totally agree. I’ve recently seen a comparison on YouTube of this Sauber vs Lego’s Red Bull, and the former is all around looking much, much better.

but it’s not a Lego…

The thing with lego is that they have no real competition. Lego is reliable, easily accessible pretty much everywhere and has a big following and reputation.

again, you look at scale modelling manufactures like Tamiya they do have various competitors, which in return is good for the quality and price.

Fake Lego feels like pirated movies or similar.

Plus the "Fake Lego Kick Sauber F1 Teams" (new name for the team) has parts that aren't even justifiable to exist if it was genuine Lego. The front wing elements for example. Lego would never produce such pieces for the purpose of having only one set catered with it. It's the strength of Lego to produce something stunning, with building blocks and pieces that can be found in any Lego set. There are exceptions like certain window shapes and even that well known hideous train front. But that fake Lego set has just too many purposely produced parts to make it look like a genuine F1 car.

That's the one thing that impressed me the most. When I built the Williams, there was one white brick in particular that caught my attention: The first time I'd handled one like it was in the 1970s.

45 years later, exactly the same...

Was this posted ironically?

My son has many various Lego sets from across different themes & he is awful at keeping them seperate from each other - so he now has a huge box of mixed Lego and they definitely make bespoke pieces for certain sets these days. Bits made specifically for one set that are almost impossible to use when making a random build.

Conversely, at my daughter’s nursery they have a big vat of LEGO that’s probably been there for decades, and it’s the traditional bricks/windows/doors that I remember from being a kid. They have no issues building their random builds with that stuff.

I understand what you mean. But it’s not entirely true.
And in the end it’s only an artificial marketing power that Lego has. But it does work. Because they have a very big and long established following.

I myself probably not going to buy a set from another company… but being realistic about it with myself that Sauber is much better in everything except for the name in the box. So I’m not going to pay official Lego prices either. In the Netherlands you usually can get most of Lego with about 30% discount, this makes it feel much more acceptable.

For the record, I got the Penske Porsche 963 and have gotten the Aston, Mercedes-Benz, and McLaren F1 cars as gifts for a couple of my great nephews and they think they're pretty cool, as does their uncle. I grew up with Matchbox, Dinky Toys, Solido, and have continued with all the modern toy manufacturers mainly IndyCar and Formula One models. Between my brother, late dad, and myself the numbers go into hundreds of pieces accumulated over the last 60 plus years. As a kid I thought collecting the memorabilia would be the only thing that would ever get me close to the racing, now they are great reminders from my involvement within the sport.
