Here we go. At the rush because it’s practice day and nobody else has done one.

Here’s what the circuit looks like:

And here’s a song about dark streets and Singapore.

Well, this GP has been around since 2008 already and has provided races with controversy, boredom, excitement, crashes, and a mixture of all of these.

Amongst the most controversial incidents in F1 history, Briatore's shenanigans:

formula-1-singapore-gp-2008-ne-2.jpg

2009: Button's huge championship lead has decreased during the season and he had very effective damage control this race. Verstappen will be keen to get a similar result this weekend.

2011: Hamilton hits Massa, who's so angry he even intervenes Hamilton's post-race interview.

2013: a boring race as Vettel dominates and takes a Grand Chelem, 30 seconds ahead. Alonso was a taxi driver for Webber, who retired on the last lap.

2015: Verstappen, coming back from being a lap behind, says "No" against team orders to let Sainz past. Ultimately, he finishes 8th, ahead of Sainz.

2017: the Ferrari's and Verstappen tangle before the first corner. Hamilton walks away with victory.

2019: Vettel's last career win.

2023: Sainz taking the only non-Red Bull win of the season, after Verstappen had a second consecutive year of qualifying problems in Singapore.

Snakes & Ladders continues…

Which team will be at the front and who will slide further back?!

Can Norris outscore Piastri? Can they both outscore Max?

Hope to see McLaren extend their WCC lead!

A Norris Max T1 inchident and another Leclerc Piastri runaway would absolutely set this title on fire.

Make it happen!

Yep it's a fun stat I really like!
14/14 races have featured a full SC period in Singapore.

So, will the 2024 no SC run or the Singapore GP always a SC run win out this weekend?

Comes with the territory of having a huge championship lead. Sorry.

I get it, but it's still a bit annoying. I think the season in itself has been one of the most unpredictable and competitive ones we've had in the last 10 years, it's not like you need the leader to have a DNF to make it interesting.

Technically that was a Norris and Verstappen crash being wished for

It’s just a shame the season didn’t start in Miami. Those early flyaways with Red Bull dominance really spoiled the championship fight.

Yes, which is pointless as Max would still lead by 59 points and have 6 races to hold on rather than 7.

Think Indycar 1996. One driver/team ruthlessly exploits a technical advantage early season. It fades after one-third distance but the challengers are all flawed in some way and have equal equipment. Early leader holds on.

Issues on Oscar's car for FP1

Oscar has suffered a setback before practice has even begun. McLaren had a problem with his car while performing pit stop practice and have to do some repairs to the rear left corner. The team say they hope to get him out before the session ends.

What if RB fixes their car for Austin and runs away with the final 6 races, as if normal service would be continued after a break?

What if, indeed.

Obviously my answer would then be it’s a shame the season didn’t end sooner. The desire is for close competition. One dominant team at the front sucks.

Yeah, but Miami was only round 6 and we're on round 18 now. McLaren have had more than enough time to catch up - they've probably had the best car for two-thirds of the season but they haven't maximised their results.

If McLaren had a car that was that much faster than everyone else, sure. Fortunately we’ve had four teams that are really close with form ebbing and flowing.

Lando practically leaves something on the table almost every weekend. The car is not Mclaren's concern.

If McLaren were as fast as Red Bull at the start of the season, Lando (and Oscar) could afford to leave plenty on the table.

The competitive situation hasn’t just swapped between two teams.

I don't know why, but I still don't have a mental map of Singapore track layout even though it's been on the calendar for 16 years. All the straights and corners become just blur in my mind. Also Saudi Arabia and Las Vegas won't help as they all look all so similar meaning they just blend in.

Maybe it's because I haven't played F1 games since GP4 days. On the other hand, for Mugello it only took one weekend to learn the track by heart.

F1AC + PCCA Support race livestreams (for the first time, Carrera Cup Asia at Singapore is live too). Thailand Super Series has not come to Singapore this year though

All of these will be daylight sessions (hurray  ) except for F1 Academy qualifying

I'm the same. It's a Street track with a load of 90-degree corners which we only see in the dark so any background features are hard to spot. Since they got rid of the Sling chicane it has had no distinctive features at all.

Edit: except the last corner I guess. That one's pretty cool.

Last corner, first corner, that little tunnel-y bit. Otherwise yeah, all quite bland and samey.

I never noticed there was such a gorgeous building on the side of the track. It would give the track some character, if only it was visible on the TV feed.

There are a lot of very nice old buildings and 'greens' around the track that you don't really get to see due to the narrow light strip at night.
