Looks to me like a long absent poster here has been taken on by Porsche ...   :rotfl:

I think the comment about patents not making production is on the money.  Is anyone spending big money on radical new ICE technology, I thought the answer is 'no', but maybe I am wrong.  Perhaps this a way of improving the efficiency of a hydrogen- fuelled ICE, but I would have expected that to be a Toyota patent.?

"3 stroke" might be a more accurate name. Seems to execute a 4 stroke cycle then a 2 stroke cycle.

Seems to have all the disadvantages of both.

What would be the disadvantage of having the power stroke at the 3rd stroke instead of the 4th?

I may have given up on the internal-combustion engine, but I haven't given up my fascination with it.

I almost posted it, but at this point in time these Rube Goldberg reinventions of the piston ICE just feel borderline ridiculous. None will ever be mass-produced, none will be found practical, and none will ever matter beyond being curiosities. The ICE piston engine tree has no fruit left on it, low or high hanging.

What a great video. 2 minutes of waffling dialog as background to a "Bill Gates" OPOC engine animation.
