For some time I have believed that Alpine will become Alonso GP.

Initially this was sparked by more regular public dinners between Flav and Fernando on their social media, then this happened a bit more often around the time of the rumours of Flav coming back to Alpine. When the rumours then began of Renault ditching the engine and the team taking on a private supply (probably Mercedes), it began to seem logical that this was or is probably being discussed between the right people.

I believe that Flav is not there to fix the team (yet) but to steady the ship and create a structure ready to sell into his own investors which will allow for this. Being sold off the back of Alonso's name, Fernando will be TP and Flav the CEO.

It's just food for thought, but it just seems that the stars are aligning.

It would certainly be more interesting than Alpine.

Fernando Alonso Racing Team for the win

Unless Flav is planning to take over and bring back the glory days of Benetton, with Fernando mentoring the drivers and being his understudy once he retires.

I'm doubtful, but if there's one current or recent F1 driver I could see getting into this kind of role it has to be Alonso.

That does have a certain resonance.

I don't think them being together for lunch and dinner is anything new, or suddenly more consistent.

Or just may be it could be called Lotus Grand Prix. I've heard the cheque is still in the post...

This sounds like a personal pipe dream.

Possible, sure, ok. But there’s only logic to it if you ignore all the outcomes for Alpine that are vastly more likely.

Not a personal pipe dream at all. The most likely outcome is that the team will be sold to an investment group. My personal hypothesis is that Flav will head up the group and the brand will be the Alonso brand.

Is this before or after Alonso retires from Aston Martin?

I think you're doing the word 'hypothesis' an injustice.  There's nothing rational on which to base this fantasy.

I was surprised when Alonso left Alpine. I had always thought he would become the team principal after retirement.

He's busy enough playing David Coulthard's "this is my year" -game and dreaming of phantom world championships almost 20 years since his last one

I'm not familiar with the details, but Alonso used to (?) have his own (?) junior single-seater team FA Racing. Colapinto and Bortoleto both raced for it in Formula Regional a few years ago.

I thought that, isn't Flav still Fernando's manager?

Yeah, i thought he said he had some long term deal with the team beyond driving.

Alonso wants to make history. If he brings Alonso Grand Prix to win a championship, it would be history.

I would love to see a Alonso team in Formula 1. But it will not happen unfortunately.

In my opinion, Fernando has 5 years in him to compete in Formula1. I guess after Aston Martin, Alpine could be Fernando's last team to race with.

I mean, Alpina team promotes nothing, a name recognized by literally no one. Alonso on other hand... But he should start from the likes of F2 or something

Yes, unfinished business there.  Better get onto that challenge while he is still firing on all 16 cylinders.  He needs to accept that he is done with F1 with a good grace and leave with his head high.  A 500 win would then be a very substantial cherry on his cake.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Alonso started a team and, even if it had the best car on the grid, every world champion he hired would have the worst stretch of luck in their career, only to come good and be a winner once they left.

And once the 500 win is safely tucked away, he can start an Indycar team (Al Onso Racing) for superannuated F1 champions and a F1 team (FART) for exciting young talent from the Indycar scene.  Win-win-win!

I'm a big fan of his, but I always feel he's just getting a good dose of Karma after his shenanigans and petulance at McLaren. Ron was partly to blame but Fred didn't help the situation. And the attempted blackmail episode I've never fully forgiven him for.

Sadly Renault has since withdrawn for 2026, making the Alpine Renault Special Engine for FART a thing of the past.
