We might be witnessing the birth of a new F1 meme.

This sounds so absolutely mad but to begin with a possibly dumb question… would this be forbidden? Presumably so, but on what grounds?

It sure does, but here's a Craig Scarborough video that explains why filling the tyres with water is the best way of lowering the centre of gravity:

It would be forbidden as it is written in the Article, Redbull experiemented with it years ago, but it was quickly forbidden by the FIA. They think others have fine tuned it and are using it now.

That would increase unsprung weight, which is the last thing you want to do surely? My only experience of water in tyres is doing it on tractors to add ballast, but I can’t imagine an F1 car handling improving from this.

It is forbidden de article states. Also states that RB experimented with it years ago when it was legal.

Apparently very small quantity of water would already help. Article also says it’s really difficult to do as basically everything is either under Pirelli or FIA control. Only way would be via the valves.

But its risky, because non-evaporated water post race would directly show.

Yeah but apparently its really limited amounts.

Unsprung weight... come on.

I'd believe an exotic gas in the tyres but I would have thought Pirelli would pick up on that fairly quickly.

In a control tyre era it seems improbable this would happen in a tyre era more believable.

How many extra KG can you give the competition to beat you with?.. average of 3 kg per tyre 12KG handikapp 🙃
No way is heat management worth that kind of "penalty"..
This is a joke.

It’s such a joke that RB experimented with it before it was illegal.

But I don't believe anything of it.

And of course the suspicious timing of the VSC during the sprint race.

Some smart person needs to explain the science of this  :stoned:  Can the pressurized air they fill the tires with be somehow made "humid"?

Why ? They are full of engineers, they are not some anonymous poster on a forum

It wouldn’t work anyway. The water might heat up but water only cools if it can take heat away from the system, either by moving it to a place where it may cool like a radiator, or by evaporation. Neither is possible inside the tyre.

Maybe this could have something to do with changing the characteristic of the compound so it wont heat up as much?

Nitrogen and water in rubber that heats up,  yeah that doesn't sound like a great idea.

The water apparently goes through the Valves of the tyres even small amounts get an effect.

Read that somewhere. Again, I am more than skeptical.

But if there is a rule specifically prohibiting this then there has to be a way to make it work or it wouldn't exist.

I don't think it's true but u also don't think it's dumb. Red bull wouldn't raise it if they didn't think it was feasible engineering wise.

Isola (Pirelli) said that they will make the checks if FIA asks them to do so.

So basically they don’t control what is inflated in their tyres, well done Pirelli clowns 😂
