I guess it's nostalgia as the magazine ceased publication over 20 years ago.

Did anyone ever reveal or figure out who the columnist "Eff One" was in F1 News? I once thought it might be Martin Brundle but later felt it might be drawn from multiple sources within the paddock.

"Putting the fun back in Formula 1" as that magazine tried to do, is something we desperately need today. For F1 not to take itself too seriously.

It was indeed an enjoyable magazine. My understanding (I put it no stronger) was that founder and editor Derek Wright wrote the Eff One column. He and Joe Saward seemed to do pretty much everything... If this obituary is accurate, then Wright was well-connected in the paddock:

I remember the magazine was closed not too long after Derek Wright passed away. It wasn't quite the same without him. I would not at all be surprised if it was him and perhaps Saward combining their paddock contacts to create a character "Eff One".

I always wanted to visit The Editor's local and sample a pint of Badgers Breath. Much missed. Between them, Autosport and F1 News covered F1 from the serious and lighthearted angles.

I believe Eff One was Joe Saward. The back catalogue of coloumns appeared on the Grand Prix.com website when Saward wrote for it and he has also created other characters to tell certain stories.

Incidentally, Derek Wright was responsible for the witty captions to a series of photos that appeared in each issue under the title 'Scene At'.
