I am sorry to report that Jim (Ginger) Payne died recently. He was 89. He raced very successfully during the mid 1950s and early 196

0s, mainly on 350 and 500 machines, but also on the 250 REG.

A serious accident at Oulton Park in 1961 ended his career. After recovery, he continued to race in saloon cars and stockcar and hot-rod racing, also establishing a competition car engine preparation business.

He was also very actively involved in Christian ministry.

Very sad to hear this. He was one of the riders I asked about in the post on "lesser" known riders of the 60s and 70s. Thank you for providing info on what he did after he had to stop riding. Do you know where he was from?

From a Brands programme dated 31 March, 1961 his home town was listed as Chislehurst. He entered on the 250 REG and a pair of Manx Nortons at this event.
