Scuderia Cinquecento pit stop for a sandwich and to take a souvenir photo with an iPad mini. We stayed 3 nights in the delightful little town of Castelbuono (which featured in the 1907 Targa) and went via Collesano, Sant'Agana, Campofelice to the pits near Cerda.

When I went there in 2016 the road was closed just a few kilometers out of Collesano...
Is it still the case?

It was still closed - well, non-existent, the historic old roadway washed away down into the valley by serial landslides - last time I visited before Covid struck. This of course was the least of the local problems in a slightly wider context since a stretch of one lane of the Autostrada down near Scillato had been lost when the high-stilted bridge carrying it had collapsed onto the valley floor.
As a local Sicilian friend from Campofelice told us "Sicilia gets lodda support money from EU - but nobody tell us where it go...".

I remember my visit and interview with "Il Preside Volante" Nino Vaccarella in Palermo 2015.
Discussing the condition of the track he told me that the local government had promised him to renovate the entire lap of the Targa Florio.
A charming ambassador of Sicily he was but I thought: dream on...
