I like the idea, a joint car launch event for all teams has something that’s been talked about for decades without ever happening, but tickets starting at £58? And going up to £118, just to gawk at some cars? That’s a rip off.

(And I presume the cheap ones won’t get you anywhere near the cars.)

It’s also likely to just be the 2024 cars with 25 livery stuck on…

Not sure why you’d go, especially as it’s being streamed online and the pics will be everywhere immediately.

Liberty Media must be remembering the huge launch events from the 2000s and thinking that's another slice of pie we're missing.

Gots to gobble up all them crumbs, nom nom nom.

i loved that it was spread out. Made thinges go by quicker in the off season with something to speak about every day for ten days.

Most of the launches these years are exactly that anyway.

So far this is presented as a one-off as F1 celebrates its 75th anniversary. I guess the reactions will decide if it's here to stay.

Lame.

The 2 weeks before the season have always made the last of the winter break more bearable with just enough time to overanalyse each car and of course determine whether it "looks fast" or not.

Pay to watch new advertisements on old cars.
How dare they to ask money for such bs.

If they forced them to show up with the actual 2025 cars, I kind of like the idea, given the teams don't really do "launch" events like they used to.

We used to have testing to talk about, but then the seadon ended much earlier, and started later.

No one will show with a 2025 car unless they award championship points for doing so

Didn't Mclaren and Ferrari used to actually just run old cars at the beginning of the year (early 2000s iirc)?

It was quite common for new cars to be introduced as and when they were ready. Many teams would introduce them for the European season.

Perhaps they can tell us how many of them will actually be fully painted this time, before anyone splurges out that much on something that could easily be as underwhelming as this year's liveries were?

Not a bad idea… award 25 championship points to each driver and team for showing up with their 2025 car.

(yes I understand this would be the same as starting every team that didn’t show at -25 pts)

Of course it needs audience participation, so at least we need a vote for best livery, biggest surprise, biggest flop etc. WDC Points awarded accordingly.

No team is going to present its new car, so it will just be a load of PR waffle with fireworks and a light show.

Yes indeed.  And as usual, when it actually comes, everyone p**ses all over it.

Same thing with the young drivers' end of season race.  Demanded for years on this forum and when it was actually proposed to have one, it was shouted down.

They wanted them ready for the new year tests, giving them time to design and fabricate updates before the season started.

I only really remember Ferrari doing that during their dominant period. The old car was still faster than everyone elses new car.

Will audience members get to boo if a team unveils two cars that are mostly naked carbon fibre and attempts to claim one's blue and the other's pink?

18th February - London Livery Unveiling

26–28 February - Bahrain Winter Test

Amazing logistical decisions again Liberty

(although as said, they're probably just bringing some old repainted mule cars to this "event")

I’m surprised the teams went for this, lots of razzmatazz but everyone is just gonna be looking at Hamilton and Ferrari… smaller teams going to have a much more watered down press interest

Unless they go rogue and ‘leak’ in the week before

TBH the best way to present the new cars would be to just unceremoniously drag them to misty and rainy Oulton Park and require everyone to do 50km Shakedown in crappy conditions.

But instead, which washed up celebrity is hosting this clown show, someone from Eastenders or something? And Will Buxton of course.

I'd be all for it if pricing for the event was reasonable. Money grabbing for events is really ridiculous at the moment, and this is no different

Been calling for something like this for years - although launch events are always a bit rubbish now with old cars or CGI being used.

It would be cool if they did this and sent the cars straight to testing, not allowing them to apply any updates before the first GP of the season. Then the event could be interesting.

As the thread title says, it’s a livery launch which will excite the kids and ‘influencers’, get people talking about which cars look cool and which cars look rubbish - all about those clicks, as we well know with Liberty.

The vast majority of fans now probably have no idea what a diffuser or Gurney flap is.

OK, so they get a single event in one part of the world to hype that they can flog a few tickets for.

Instead of the designs of the cars being drip-fed out in the lead-up to testing which keeps the sport in the news cycle over the summer break.

I like it from the point of view of getting all of the drivers and team principals in the same place.

Relax guys. It's 'an event' with the car liveries, probably stage interviews AND musical entertainment (Justin Freakin' Bieber will be there!). It will last several hours and be an experience. No, I won't be going but I really don't think it's exorbitant pricing for tickets to a multiple hour event with mixed entertainment.

I doubt the majority of fans ever had an idea of what a diffuser or a Gurney flap is. Certainly not in the most popular years of the sport.

This sounds like it could be good. It might help build excitement before the new season and will offer fans an opportunity to see cars, drivers and other F1 personalities up close. The pricing looks pretty reasonable for a one-off event in London.

It probably isn't for me but if I was in town that day I would consider going. F1 should've been doing this years ago.

it will be a tacky launch event with celebs there with no clue about F1 only there to look cool on their social media pages. The launches back in the day was so much better having a livery launch will be so crap. Knowing Liberty they will wheel out that boxing announcer for each team

Idea în itself, quite good. Fleecing the spectators, not so good. But at least we'll get to see real livery photos side by side, same lights, no CGI (I hope). I can live with that.

I always thought they should do it post testing. Pre 1st race. When they were in the Middle east anyways.

Now we have Melbourne 1st race. They should have a Thursday pre party. Actual cars on a stage with interviews.

I could not care less for CGI crap. One thing the 80/90s did well was car launches.

I am really looking forward to Melbourne first race. Just feels right. Proper F1.

Whilst we need to respect the Middle east as they prop up a lot with their money. It just lacks character.

I’m assuming you’d have them test in special test liveries then.

To the young and wild it will be an instagrammable event. So thats worth something, for F1 at least. The only letdown is it will be a showcar reveal with only new liveries and there is bound to be some restrictions on what teams can and can not share prior to this event. So any new car will likely have a shake down in a different livery.

Will it be a slow unveiling, or cars just cluttered about? Some of the liveries are incredibly boring, most of the liveries are incredibly boring, all of the liveries are incredibly boring.

The interesting aspects of unveilings are the new cars, the gizmos and thingymajicks which will carry or condemn the team for the upcoming season, which sponsors sit where, which colors not complementing each other plastered on the cars have zero relevance.

I say this as a certified grouchy old man.

Q: Where were you when e.g. Sauber revealed their new livery in 2024?

A: At home/work/love nest

Q: How did you then know what to criticize about the horrid livery

A: I looked at the pictures on the internet

Q: Where did these pictures originate

A: They were released by the team as renderings and through a wildly optimistic and cringe press release

So, the ability to do these things exactly like it's been done the last multiple years are the exact same.
