F1 didn't clash with the Indy 500.

You could watch Monaco in the morning, The 500 around noon, and if you were so inclined, Nascar in the afternoon.

We used to keep the OldOak pub open all night for what was then called "The Race Fans Christmas"
1pm/ 5pm /11pm

It's so obvious you've never been to the British GP! 15c and rain would be seen as a luxury here. 🤣

Ha! The mtl gp justifies itself because like Adelaide and Melbourne it was way ahead of its time as it's right near the centre of a major cosmopolitan city. Montreal is alive during gp week, patios overflowing, that's gonna b3 dampened if it's miserable. Spring in Canada is weird, it's 8 degrees and raining for like 6 weeks then it's 28 degrees overnight.

This is beyond stupid.

Hope Pirelli come up with a snow compound tire.

This will coincide with one of the biggest long weekends of the year (Victoria Day) which heralds the unofficial beginning of summer.

It's not unusual for it to snow in Montreal this time of year. Expect temperatures in the single digits and possibly below freezing.

It is very very unusual for it to snow in Montreal during the May long weekend. I don't ever remember snow that late into spring. I'm going to expect temperatures in the double digits and possibly t-shirt, shorts and sunscreen.

I have only been living here for two and a half years, so allow me to ask: when was the last time we had snow in late May? With my limited sample of two winters here, it seems almost unthinkable. Late May is already t-shirt weather for me.

I've lived near Montreal my whole life (50+ yrs) don't ever remember snow in late May. The long weekend usually kicks off the camping and cottaging season.

Why are people freaked out about this? Third or fourth weekend of may is only 2-3 weeks earlier. It certainly won't snow. I've been in Montreal in May and it was bloody lovely.

We've had terrible weather in June for the race, a it won't be a new thing if it is a bit rainy.

Not gonna happen since you need two weeks off to participate in the Indy practice + qualifying.

You can have another driver qualifying the car. Not very common, I think the last time that happened was in 2015 when Tristan Vautier qualified in place of James Davison who was racing in Pirelli World Challenge.

It’s surely not an ideal way to make an attempt at the 500 but doable when F1 is racing in North America. I mean, you can do the practice days Tuesday to Friday, fly to Montreal for the weekend, and fly back for more Indy testing on Monday.

Of course, you need a solid substitute driver to qualify the car and not get bumped if there are more than 33 entrants.

No F1 team is gonna agree to such arrangements. Probably Indycar team neither because participating to 500 also includes other duties with the team

Alonso got special treatment fron McLaren because he is who is (and that car was piece of garbage fighting for nothing anyway).

“No F1 team would agree to such arrangements”, and then proceeds to describe an exact situation where an F1 team and an Indycar team agreed to such arrangements.

In 2026 Ramadan finishes on march 19th so keep that in mind for when the 2026 dates come out

Quick Google says they're harvested September to December.

It’s literally 2-3 weeks earlier than normal, hardly the end of the world.

It's Canada, it's literally the end of the world.
