Zhou has legitimately had a fantastic weekend all round. A bit more of that, and he’d probably still be on the grid next year. He’s not put forward a compelling case to stay on up to now, but he’s also had pretty awful machinery. Even in 2022, by the time he got up to pace with F1, the Sauber’s weight advantage had been lost and the chance to score good results was gone. Forever, as it turned out. Good on him for today.

I totally get why the stewards penalized Norris for ignoring the flag but I really can't understand why on earth didn't they throw VSC/SC to remove the mirror.

A new Mercedes Vs Verstappen duel incoming?

AV9xqXs.png

Question to those who have followed the media coverage this weekend (I have been busy this weekend and couldn't really): Has Russell at any point claimed he has not pleaded for a penalty (who is asking such a question?), thus being "two-faced" (which well, he is, we knew that). Because if not Max' rant makes no sense as it solely turns into whether drivers should plead for penalties against their peers, but this would be utterly bollocks, because he does this himself too!  the stewards noted in Hungary for instance that Max was trying to argue for a penalty against Hamilton (and Hamilton not, despite being probably the more innocent party in that incident), so he is doing this stuff himself! And he did it today vs Norris (albeit openly, and net behind closed doors)

The implication later (alleged though, Ted might talk out of his arse) that Russell is in cahoots with the FIA is utterly hilarious no matter what though.

Ridiculas!!!!!!!!!!!! Today's Stewards jobs for the race next year need to include brooms and oil dry or orange gloves to direct traffic in the parking lots! They ruined Lewis and Carlos race through sheer incompetence.

Well. The stewards has nothing to do with that, so that won't help now will it?

Both Sainz and Hamilton got their punctures before Bottas hit the mirror…Pirelli again just like last year.

Proof?

The real scandal is people assuming the punctures were because of debris...

There are tire problems in Qatar every single year. It's the same story. This track might as well be Indy 2005.

2 tires roughly 10s apart in a lap the mirror got smashed into tiny razors littering the straight. Yeah. Coincidence.

It is slightly strange that it was the front left for both, when there didn't seem to be that much debris on the left side. Also Perez in between them didn't pick up a puncture.

Carlos Sainz was reporting the problem with his front left tire at the end of lap 33. Valterri Bottas didn't hit the mirror until lap 34 (Bottas being lapped by Leclerc which is why Bottas hit the mirror, but it's lap 34 for Leclerc). I confirmed this on F1 TV.

Near end of lap 33 for Sainz:

"Front left vibration, check front left, I'm going to box, I feel a lot of understeer from the front left,"

Then he misses the pit entry and goes down the front straight where Bottas had just hit the mirror about 5-7 seconds ago.

This circuit is almost all high load right hand corners. It looks more like standard tire failure due to high cyclical loading on the left front from the right hand corners.

Carlos Said he had the puncture at the last corner, but couldn't go to the pit.

See my last post. Nothing to do with the mirror. Pirelli is at fault.

Is the race so bad because the track is bad or is it because the season is so long and the drivers are all punch drunk? Either way, I’m going to start trying to speed the process along of forgetting this race.

Uts actually a properly good track for driving but thr flowing nature and lack of big stops hurts the spectacle.

I want to watch, but I am not sure I can take more oustanding penalties for nothing...  :( I have no trust in the FIA unfortunately. Hope the race is good and without debatable stewarding, but for this probably Max has to give up in every single battle

Second post on the thread.

Yeah I guess it’s much better the other way around where a driver is usually polite in person but then says to the camera that he could have gone 2 tenths faster than a world champion in the same car or won the championship even earlier in a McLaren or Ferrari. Give me a break.

There were 0 punctures unrelated to contact for 34 laps in this race and then we had 2 within 30 seconds of Bottas destroying a wing mirror and spreading debris across the entire width of the pit straight. I find it very hard to believe the punctures weren't caused by that smashed wing mirror.

I find it hard to believe both were left fronts, the coincidence being that tyre has been a source of punctures in previous races. Hamilton said it went down as he reached the pit entry. The debris seems to be the genuine coincidence.

You can also clearly see the debris is on the other side of the track, for the punctures to be related to that Sainz and Hamilton should have driven besides the pitwall to hit it with their left front.

The debris wasn't the cause of the punctures, but it still should have been cleared up. Race control messed up there. The teams were also pushing their luck by running the mediums so long (although they were incentivised to do so when Russell was unable to extract any pace out of the hards).

How is that even the same? Its quite a difference that you don’t make much of the incident infront of the camera and then in the stewards room implying that Verstappen did it on purpose. Somebody already posted the video that Russell was warned that Verstappen was close to Alonso and Russell proceeded to just go on there like they are not even there.

Lol it's only Monday, I'll do it later this week :)

BTW, I left a few laps before the chequered flag and headed straight to Doha airport, flight to Istanbul, flight to Stansted, train home to Nottm.

20 hrs later I am standing on platform 2 at Leicester with 1hr left until I'm home :D

That's international jet-setting for you, always somewhere exotic.

His engine lost drive and locked up. What are you on about?!

Talk about really hating a driver....

"On the issue that saw his race finish, Horner explained: "We're just investigating the exact failure but it looks like, obviously he's spun the car and as he dropped the clutch, the clutch had too much temperature go through it. So yes, one of those things. But more to come after we've stripped the car."

Beautiful racing that is the true definition of hard racing that is on but not over the limit. Proper sports men.

I'm pretty sure Max wouldn't hesitate to say this to the drivers also. So he'd say in in their face and before the camera. So how would that be 2-faced?

Pirelli F1 now believes Qatar GP tyre failures were not caused by mirror debris

"........

It was initially suspected that the two punctures were the result of the drivers running over mirror debris, but more detailed analysis over recent days appears now to have ruled that out.

Pirelli F1 chief engineer Simone Berra says that detailed investigation work has now commenced at its Milan base to get to the bottom of what happened, and work out exactly what did cause the issues.

However, early analysis of telemetry that has taken place in the days after the race has already shown that both drivers were suffering pressure losses before they went past the mirror debris........."

https://www.motorspo...ebris/10680002/

Investigation not yet complete; the above is preliminary.

And I'm pretty sure someone here asked if we were on drugs for suggesting it.
