I don't follow Max, Kelly or any of the current F1 crowd on social media but I did get the impression that Max accepted penelope into the family and that he was playing the role of dad already. All good signs. I doff my metaphorical hat to anyone who successfully raises children. Something I'm rather glad I never even attempted.

I like that Max has always said that he won't impose racing on his kids. Always said he'll let them decide whatever they want to do. I have no doubts he'll be a fantastic dad.

Makes sense. Jos 'failed' to become an elite driver and was very determinded that his son would achieve what he himself could not. Max is a multiple WDC, so he won't have the same urge to 'redeem' himself via his children. So I have little concern that mini-Max will take away Penelope's Red Bull seat in 2043.

Wish them best of luck to them with their preganancy. Hopefully the child gets the driving talent and not the unpleasant Piquet/Verstappen personalities.

I thought I'd finally see a thread that involves Max void of the drip drip drip __________ ...  sadly not.

Congratulations! I'm always delighted when I hear about babies! I do think that this will mean that Max does not have a particularly long F1 career though.

Quite possible!  But Max has always said his stay would shorter than longer.

Once the kid is born, he will stretch his career. F1 is more fun than diapers. ;)

Agreed, but then he'd have to become a super-villain (sorry, it's the law)

but Min-i-ver (rather than Min-ee-ver) at least sounds like a modern name

Best wishes to the imminent  little one. You'll have no pressure on you - just have to match Alberto Ascari, Stirling Moss, Damon Hill, Michael Andretti, Jacques Villeneuve and, er, Max Verstappen.

Max will have to wrap up the 2025 WDC quickly if he wants to win it then, as he's always said that he will only have children when he retires.

I'd put Alan Jones rather than Moss tbh, or does that overdo the pressure?

Nico Rosberg .... or is that too much pressure?

So, this means Max has progressed from free practice to qualifying, then?   ;)

Finally! Red Bull now have their Perez replacement lined up.

So Perez will be extended with Red Bull to 2042 and retire at 52 with 10 kids and be the subject of the longest lasting thread on this forum......😄

Verstappen on the prospects for another F1 driver in the family: "I hope not. If he or she wants to do it, and I see that there is talent, I would support it, of course, naturally. But I really hope not!" And on that racing DNA: "Again, no pressure. Just live your life."

I applaud the man for stepping up tobthe plate so young, we as a western society are having kids far, far, far too late. He will have lots of fun with his kids and his grandkids, all the best to them.

There's nothing wrong with having kids late. I came late to parenthood (very late!) and I have loads of fun with my girls. Why be old before your time? Anyway, Kelly is 36 (happy birthday) and at one time would probably have been considered an "older" mother. :)

Of course there's nothing wrong with having kids late, I think Alfisti was more talking about avoiding having kids in your 20's. A lot of people avoid it like the plague and feel like they're too young - and perhaps end up regretting it later.

Max doesn’t have to worry about childcare costs though. That’s the biggest blocker to young people having children - childcare costs, housing costs, proximity to grandparents also being a limiting factor.

And before this veers too far into Paddock Club territory, congratulations to Max and Kelly. Max seems like a good dad to Penelope.

30ish for the first kid is as late as you want to go. There's a gap to the 2nd, or even 3rd, then suddenly you're having kids at 40 and your 10 year old wants to play and you're 50.

Old.

Have the right partner, get it done late 20s.

Yep, I got kids when I was 33 on purpose. My biggest regret in life now is that I started too late with kids. This is for everyone different off course, but I wished I started by the end of 20's.

Still, have the biggest fun with them now 😉

Nah. 50 isn’t old to have a ten year old. Not if you look after yourself.

I think there are lots of reasons in Western society why people are having kids later. Financial pressures being one, and women wanting to focus on their careers where in the past they’d have been expected to drop everything for raising a family and wouldn’t have had the chance. I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

I had two newborns at 50! No regrets whatsoever. I never wanted to be childless, but finding a suitable partner who wants kids is increasingly difficult...many men just don't want to settle down. Now aged 59 I have nine year old twins and three cats and I can honestly say that I love my life. It's not for everyone but we're all different. I'm glad that I won't be old before my time. I never want to retire either...hope to still be working at 70. :)
