So the normal camshaft is only used to drive the accessories?

Maybe the fifth one is just a shaft, with no cams.

Sort of like saying the Twin Cam Lotus engine is really a triple cam.

The engine has been around for 50 years and this is the first time Anyone called it a 5 cam engine.

Well, the third cam did drive the fuel pump and distributor, it wasn't totally redundant... Oops! On second thoughts, that was the jackshaft - God, I'm getting old, fancy forgetting that.

Mike Kimberley's Esprit had a powersteering pump driven off the camshaft (wuss). By the logic of this 5 camshaft engine that means he had a single camshaft engine. Boring war story I was in the workshop one Saturday morning just after we'd had photo ids issued. Saw this bloke wandering around looking at things, no ID. So I challenged him. It was MK, luckily he saw the funny side. Incidentally he was the only CEO I've ever seen eating the works canteen.

Having watched the videos from these blokes a 4 cam SBC, a 12 cyl LS and various flatheads the engines are made for the salt and hi speed which they do fairly well.

As for anything else really no. A 4 cam SBC would stuggle to make the power of a Nascar or Sprintcar engines. Still narrow use but less so.

GM had the Lotus head SBC in the late 80s,, it was a lemon even in those days. And OHC engines need a bigger hole to fit in as well.

Look at the ginormous Coyote, sure they go ok though stock they dont compare witha LS/LT. But they are bloody huge. And not light either. Part of the problem with V8 Stupidcars. Parity, the Chevs are carring ballast on top of the engine to mimic the Ford lump. And the Ford whingers are always saying the Chevs have more power, even after dyno testing, aero testing etc etc.
