So the normal camshaft is only used to drive the accessories?

Maybe the fifth one is just a shaft, with no cams.

The engine has been around for 50 years and this is the first time Anyone called it a 5 cam engine.

Well, the third cam did drive the fuel pump and distributor, it wasn't totally redundant... Oops! On second thoughts, that was the jackshaft - God, I'm getting old, fancy forgetting that.

Mike Kimberley's Esprit had a powersteering pump driven off the camshaft (wuss). By the logic of this 5 camshaft engine that means he had a single camshaft engine. Boring war story I was in the workshop one Saturday morning just after we'd had photo ids issued. Saw this bloke wandering around looking at things, no ID. So I challenged him. It was MK, luckily he saw the funny side. Incidentally he was the only CEO I've ever seen eating the works canteen.
