Am I wrong or is this premium brand EV power race going to end in tears?

It seems that the only thing the premium brands can think of to differentiate themslves is more and more power. I sense they are so lost now they are chasing themslves up a blind alley in the long term.
1,000 bhp in mainstream EV is , in my humble opinion lunacy , both from safety and insurance prespective.
It sort of worries me that anybody in Uk with £20K can now buy a Tesla model 3 dual motor and get to 100 mph in about ten seconds just be pressing the right pedal.
I love hig power street cars etc but historically the cos,t and having only two seats, limited sales and thus the risk on roads. Also there is an awareness in a low, noisy sports car of travelling fast, In a 2.5 tonne SUV seated high up in the air there may not be such an awareness..For example I have seen the new Lotus EV SUV in the flesh and it is simply monstrous in every direction.
Sorry if I am geting old and cuatious
