@ChrisMedlandF1

So an agreement has been reached between Red Bull and Sergio Perez to part ways with immediate effect.

What hasn’t been agreed is who is announcing it first. So neither side is announcing it yet #F1

Maybe he is looking to keep his job by just endlessly dodging their calls.

(Another move from the George Costanza playbook)

Surprised it's not here yet. Perez leaving Red Bull is now official.

Perez himself has put a statement out. Which itself is a thing of beauty when it comes to bigging himself up in the face of reality. He states as fact that he's contributed to Red Bull's "most successful era in Formula 1". Vettel-era Red Bull might want a chat...

Multiple sources on Bluesky and the other place saying Perez will definitely not be driving for Red Bull next year. Nothing official from team or driver as yet.

EDIT - a minute after I posted this, f1 and Sergio himself confirmed the news.

Lawson will be an albonesque mistake/farce

Redbull will fall into the same traps over and over - reminds me of Sideshow Bob and the rakes on the simpsons

I like Checo, and the RB20 may be a Frankenstein car, but he still did not show enough that he is capable enough to bag the points for the team.

I would like to see Tsunoda at the team, but it will probably lawson that gets the nod. I hope the car is at least decent so they will be able to do well enough. The Gasly and Albon situation does not need a repeat.

This really seems to be a problem with their academy. They had some drivers that looked very good for them to them be disappointing in F2 or even F3. Lindblad seems a good driver, but still too early to tell.

Lawson was never the first choice, why wait so long to promote him otherwise? As for Tsunoda: he is not a Red Bull driver and has not shown enough.

I would have preferred if they had gone for a younger but experienced driver...

@redbullracing

Gracias por todo Checo

After four successful seasons together, Sergio Pérez and Oracle Red Bull Racing have reached an agreement to part ways for 2025.

Perez actually finished higher than last season twice with Force India, I think that rather sums up the season, especially when his teammate won the championship.

Anyway, good to finally have an announcement it was getting beyond silly

I presume it took this long to agree upon Perez’s payout.

Well, if Liam Lawson is getting the seat, that sounds like an error to me. He’s not nearly ready yet, and Red Bull’s ability to support an inexperienced second driver has historically been lacking.

So long Checo. Nice guy and good drives on his day.

Red Bull managed their 2nd seat terribly though. They missed out on a known driver with Sainz at the peak of his career.

As I have posted before, I think there is a missing layer to their academy. Experience in another team against non Red-Bull team-mates should be a natural pathway, but not an absolute prerequisite, to meriting the Red Bull promotion. The academy drivers are not necessarily ready after a couple of years in F1, especially if they will be straight into important campaigns with WDCs and WCCs at stake.

Tsunoda will be in Lawson’s seat at some point during the season I reckon

More chance of Colapinto. I think even if Tsunoda wins a race with RB he will never be considered.

It's already quite known that it's not about ability.

They don't seem to love him. Is there anyone else who could materialise that they haven't just passed on recently?

By what is written seems will be Lawson, who I can not see being the natural replacement, arguments can be made that Red Bull do not have a natural replacement, in which case they should act accordingly and get one lined up, there must be several drivers who can be pried away from their current team though the sheer force of money.

Personally and out of Tsunoda, Lawson and Hadjar it should clearly be Tsunoda.

Unless found we keep it over at the Perez thread, in which case Moderators can close this one.

I think that Checo was a good driver, who lost something and was diminishing his standing, so I am relieved that it is over. For a replacement, I support Liam Lawson, I think that he is a better fit to Red Bull and has higher potential ceiling. I hope he is announced soon.

The thread that appeared yesterday was locked because the news was premature. It's now confirmed that Perez is out. But that's it.

Can't we have a more generic title like "Perez out - who will be his replacement?"?

Checo could be very fast on his day, but after he lost in Miami last year, something broke, like Vettel after Germany 18. I am glad it's over.

I read that Albon is a possibility

I think Lawson has a higher ceiling but Tsunoda might be the better bet for 2025. Frankly they shouldn't have left it this long as in an ideal world you wouldn't have either in a title-winning car at this stage.

It certainly feels like a weird strategy to promote a driver who wasn't even the fastest RB driver this year- if they rumours about Lawson are true. But I can't make much sense out of Red Bull's driver choices over the last 8 years in a lot of cases.

Albon

Ocon

Bottas

Ricciardo - Yes I said it, much as it would annoy me, he could go there.

Lawson in F1 have appeared less ready than I thought he would be, I had expected a clearly better diver than both Ricciardo and Tsunoda, do not really think he has shown anything relatively speaking.

Liam and Yuki at RB.

Franco and Carlos at Williams.

Not illogical

I've read that Ted Kravitz had said that he has a get-out clause in case of an offer from Red Bull.

I see advantages in going that way. It would give Lawson a bit more time to develop in the junior team and there wouldn't be unrealistic expectations on Alex. Also, Albon has been through it before and can probably take the punches.

I sure hope no Bottas or Ricciardo.
Esteban is not a team player. Not a good fit.
Alex is a risk.
So I still prefer Liam.

Alex may very well appease the Thai side of the business also. Anyway, I’m sure the deal is already done, regardless of who it is with. So…curious to see who it is

It will be Lawson but it should be Tsunoda. Still, can't rule out a mid season switch if it doesn't go well.

To promote Hadjar.
