Happy new year, forumers! As we're heading into the proper dark depths of off-season we need something to talk about so here's one of those topics (inspired by recent posts on our discord). I'd like this thread to focus on clothing, not just any racing memorabilia. Any motorsport included. You're welcome to brag about your expansive collection or the opposite, if you feel merch is beneath you and don't have any   ;)

Personally I sorta fall into the latter group but I do have a single Ferrari t-shirt my cheapskate self was lucky to find second hand.

Not much, and a LOT less than I expected I’d have as a when I was a kid and saw all those die-cast adverts in F1 Racing magazine. I had grand plans for a room housing thousands of those things… but now I’m an adult I spend my money on much less exciting things

I own a few caps… and that’s about it! And two of them are freebies that me and the wife unbelievably managed to catch one each of at Silverstone this year in the fan zone. She caught a George Russell signed denim cap, and I caught one that Hamilton threw - generic team Mercedes cap. Couldn’t believe our luck!

There was a lot of merch sales at Silverstone this year - serious business! Ferrari 44 caps are going to sell like hot cakes to the new Britfosi in 2025

Personally I'm not into these sort of things.

At most, I get a similar color T-Shirt to the team my favourite driver drives for and write the name and the number by myself although I prefer cream color T-Shirts as it goes well with anything IMO.

I did have a larger collection of 1/43 diecast by Minichamps, Spark, BBR and Looksmart but over time I’ve sold a lot of them as I didn’t have space anymore.

I just have the world champion models now for my favourite drivers, Michael Schumacher, Kimi and Max.

I’ve also got a couple of 1/2 size helmets, highlight being Kimi Abu Dhabi 2021 signed by the driver.

If I had my way I would have a big display but unfortunately that’s not to be at the minute!

1 bootleg Ferrari shirt that I got recently. First ever merch item I buy.

I do have some model cars from when I was a kid.

1 x le mans cap
2 x le mans tee shirts, that's it .

Tip - don't buy at the 24 hours, wait till the ACO has a sale on, and get for 1/2 or 1/3 of the price they normally charge

I have a small collection of F1 clothing related to the recent NZ drivers, or NZ-related. A Toro Rosso cap and t-shirt from Hartley's days at the team, and a generic Alpha Tauri beanie from Lawson's cameo there last season. However, most items are McLaren/Lando Norris kit. Beanies, shirts, hoodies, caps. A couple of baseball caps with the F1 logo on as well.

Would be quite interested in a Lawson Funko Pop if Red Bull have that collaboration again in 2025, something a little more unusual than scale model cars.

I've Got some 1/18 autoart models, and about 20 1/43 scale models. All stowed away somewhere for about 10 years now.

I have a Peugeot cap signed by some drivers from the 2000 era.

A Ferrari hat and fleece from around 2001. I still wear the fleece every now and then. Good quality.

About a dozen dekra caps I got at the nbr 24.

And an FIA GT cap.

Not much, the most recent piece of F1 merchandise I got was a Sainz McLaren hat when I went to the Spanish GP in 2019, because it happened to come free with the ticket.

I've only got some Stewart F1 Merch from when I was a kid, a hat, a shirt with Rubens 1997 car on the back. I have some old copies of autosport from 94 if that counts? And a newspaper clipping of Rubens and Stewarts surprise Monaco 97 podium.

Nothing! Absolutely nothing. It’s just not my thing.

Although, when I bought my house, a big old Victorian place, 4 or 5 years ago, I discovered when exploring the attic rooms upstairs that the previous owner had left a big Ferrari flag and a Shell banner, both 70s style, in the main room up there. That was quite a discovery. So I suppose those count? They’re still up there.

I raid the heavy sales on the F1 store every once in a while.

I've got some Mclaren Honda shirts from their GP2 days that were a fiver each. Got an Aston Martin and Alpha Tauri shirt at one point t

oo.

Outside of that, the only other bit of motorsport merchandise I have is a 2004 Nazionale Piloti shirt that I bought from a site that sells classic football shirts, and I don't think realised what they had, because it was £50, and they are sold for about £1000 now. I'm constantly doing the mental gymnastics of selling it to pay bills, and the pull on my heart it has because I know I'll never be able to get another one.

I think I’ve got 10-12(?) 1:18 F1 models, which are now in storage…stopped collecting them when the prices got stupid and priorities change as you get older.

I used to like my team wear when I was in my teens (and this will probably upset some people!) but I feel like it’s something that you grow out of. I’m not walking into Tesco emblazoned in sponsorship logos at anything past 16-17 years old, lol. I can understand people wearing stuff to the actual GP, but I get ‘full kit w**ker’ vibes sometimes if I’m honest!

My most expensive bit of team wear is probably a Ferrari waterproof coat that I bought around 2002ish for £200 or something daft like that.

I've got all Williams team caps since 2002. And a couple Rotmans ones, a Winfield one and a Canon one.
Also some other team wear like shirts and a jacket.

But other than that; since I've started living together, I gradually got rid of my 1:18 diecast models consisting of some 30-ish F1 cars of various eras and no real theme. And also some 1:18 models of Le Mans winners. That was a bit of a heartache letting that all go. But in the end it took up a lot of space and I got good money back for it.

Clothing? Hardly anything, can only recall a Lotus Gold Leaf cap I've never worn and a Marlboro McLaren cap that I bought at the 1988 British GP. It wasn't waterproof.

That's me! I have few grounds to be snobbish and superior, so cling fiercely to that one. I have never bought or worn a single item of racing-branded stuff, and would refuse to stand next to friend with a "fan" hat or tee shirt.

The nearest I ever came, was when a group who frequented Vintage Sports Car Club meetings discussed (in a pub) having matching tee shirts printed with the pre-war advertising slogan "Pratts At All Events". Needless to say, we didn't do it.

About 25 diecast models, and a whole heap of clothes!
I still have a Red Bull t-shirt that says “Coulthard” on the front, from 2005! Always experienced F1 merch clothes to be of really good quality.
I think I have four Hamilton hoodies, a couple of t-shirts, three caps, two soft shell Mercedes jackets, Mercedes piquet shirts, t-shirts etc, but as mentioned lots of Red Bull gear from when DC was there, but also stuff from McLaren from around 2000 to 2004, and I’ve also got a couple of garments from Williams and Porsche.

I've got a Brawn GP Jenson Button cap which I bought at Silverstone several years after Brawn had become Mercedes so I was amazed to find them still available. I used to have a Cosworth cap but I'm not sure where that is now. The only other motorsport clothing I have is a pair of socks in Williams FW16 design that I was given for Christmas a few years ago.

There’s a lightweight Martini Williams somewhere, and a Jake Hill cap I wear for the BTCC. A few more diecast out of sight and a few more at my parents’ that I haven’t brought over yet. A big tub of Lego Speed Champions too, and some F1 seasons reviews on DVD.

Now I want to see Lara driving an F1 car!

Myself, i've got a few 1:43 model cars (anything bigger is too big) though have a larger Raikkonen 2008 car in my old room at my parents house.

If I had the space I would certainly get more of the models, it's a great way to remember cool ones of the past.

Outside of that specifically clothing, I have 3 hats, 2007 Ralf Schumacher, 2009 Kimi Raikkonen, 2011 Vettel (the 3 years I went to watch F1 at Silverstone) though whilst I used to wear the Kimi hat quite a lot all 3 are just momentos these days

Personally I find anything other than a hat a bit tacky, sure it's okay at the race itself, but day to day around town nah no thanks

As I do not have much fashion sense, I was more often buying clothes in the Nurburgring shop, on Interclassics Maastricht and various other outlets over the years (Red Bull Ring, Spa, Audi Ingolstadt, Porsche museum etc)

2 hoodies

4 vests

5 tshirts

5 polos

1 wallet

2 miniatures

2 sport shirts (one from Mclaren, the other from Aston Martin Le Mans team)

T-shirts to wear to races I design & then get printed, much cheaper than team wear. As they show no team logos I can wear them this season too but maybe tempted by red! Do have a Mclaren hoodie from 2010 with 2 world champions written on it. Also have all of Lewis’s diecast 1:18 model championship cars (8   ;)) plus the special Monaco Niki one. A lot of 1.2 helmets & some 1.5 special ones! A few paintings, photos & posters…..

Plus gifts from relatives a silver necklace with 44 & hammertime on it! An iPad holder made from the plank of Lewis’s 2014 car  :)

I’ve got loads of books, although I’d always like more. I went through a phase of ordering loads of stuff online, digging round for obscure season reviews for 20p on Ebay, and I used to have loads of them but when we moved (to a bigger) house my wife made me put most of it up in the attic room where nobody ever goes, along with my old PC setup, magazines, so the only things we had on our bookshelves were really useful books like Michelle Obama biographies, recipe books we never use and stuff about living life Hygge or some such crap. Not that I’m bitter. I quite like sitting up there surrounded by dead spiders and boxes of Christmas decorations.

I have two book shelves of books, but no models and just a McLaren toque I found in a Las Vegas discount bin and Alonso's 2006 team shirt.

Something I find odd, I see lots of people wearing F1 hats - in particular McLaren - but if you acknowledge it they look at you like you are weird. I've never been able to start a rando F1 conversation in the streets.

I have a broad range of hats, tshirts, and a single hoodie.

Hats and tees date back to the Jordan F1 fan club. Newer F1 things are the LeClerc hat I got at COTA in 2020 and the gear I have gotten working the 2023 and 2024 LVGPs. Smattered in are Indycar (Dixon Champ 6x tee and AAR Eagle hats and tee) and WEC (Glickenhaus and Rexy Fuji tees) a FE hat, but mostly IMSA tees and hats. The hoodie I got from NTE Racing who was running a Lamborghini GTD car at the Roar. The team had been reaching out to fans on reddit and was giving away a team hat and hoodie to each of the first two fans to meet them on a certain day. I happened to be the first person.

Fwiw, IMSA AO Racing is my current team crush with a couple of tee’s, 1:43 and 1:18 Rexy diecast and the Rexy plush. I guess I’m a sucker for green dinosaur Porsches.

I feel like I'm a bit of an anomaly here, I started buying and receiving model racecars and books as soon as I showed an interest in racing when I was about 5 years old. Those collections have grown over the years. I think the first Motorsport related clothing I bought were t-shirts for Formula 1 at Watkins Glen in 1974. Yes, those shirts are boxed up and in good condition still.

Maybe I'm weird, but I've always been happy to dress in a manner at times that there is no question I'm a person associated with motorsports. Nothing gaudy, but when you can get team shirts that have the style of a fine Polo or dress shirt, it's hard for me to resist.

I was hoping that the discussion would turn towards this side of the subject. There are some pieces of merch that look quite tasteful and not that out of place in everyday life but I feel like it's in the minority. I've seen a few middle aged (since you mention the age aspect) men wearing F1 jackets lately and that doesn't look too bad. But for some reason I feel like shirts are much worse - I think it's pretty hard to make them fit with any "normal" outfit.

One of my first jobs, while still in high school, was in fashion. There are many options in putting outfits together. Solid color polo shirts and dress shirts with embroidered logos can easily match up with many choices of slacks or jeans.

My house also has racing photo galleries, four large bookcases with primarily car and racing content, glass cases with tins and die-casts (old and new), helmets,team/driver suits, a dozen Bobby Marshman trophies, etc.. I like being around reminders of things that I love and don't worry about what others may think and their criticisms.
