Happy new year everyone! Over the last year we’ve been considering what to do with the team and technical threads that currently exist for most of the 10 F1 teams. We’ve read your comments and feedback and looked at things from the moderator's perspective too.
We saw that in practice there was little to distinguish the two kinds of thread, with discussion moving back and forth between technical and non-technical issues. Moreover the amount of moderation that would be required to keep the two topics separate is beyond the capabilities of a small bunch of amateurs such as ourselves.
What we’d like to do for this year is to merge team and technical threads into a single catch-all thread for each F1 team. The hope is that we can then allow discussion to move freely between the various aspects of the team endeavour.
We’ll be keeping an eye on how things develop during the season. If it looks like valuable technical discussion, not being as heated as discussions of Lewis and Charles' relative strengths, is being squashed, then we will try to open up ad hoc threads to talk about important technical developments. (You are welcome to do this too!) The ideal as always is to improve discussion rather than shut it down.
We’ll be starting this new approach effective immediately. Apologies to those of you who already created technical threads.
Any thoughts, or feedback as the year goes on, please let the mod team know by PM. Happy posting. It's going to be a good year.

I miss the days the technical forum went in depth on teams.

What do you mean? Team discussion is 99% of what's discussed in either team or technical threads. It's the tech discussion that's lacking, but solely because it quickly devolves into speculation and superficial takes as not many of us are F1 engineers that can discuss the finer points of fluid dynamics and engine power curves.
I welcome this change.

I think Nathan was referring to the actual Technical Forum, way back in the mists of time

Could we also have these threads stored somewhere else so they can easily be found. Thanks
Interesting -- I remember we've talked about using more subforums in the past but we decided that when you hive off threads in that way, you also limit the number of people who discover them and therefore the engagement with the threads themselves.
Perhaps we could create a sticky with links to the 10 team threads in case, I don't know, the Sauber thread slips onto page 560 and someone has some urgent Hulkenburg chat to share.

That's what search (even with it's many limitations) are for.

This is a good move.
I also agree with FNLN, at least 3 or 4 of the current stickies don’t really need to be, imo.

Maybe get rid of some of the sticky topics? Adding another means 6 sticky topics at the top…
Good thinking
