Just now, noticed that such searches do not extend to material currently housed in the Archives.

Please restore this reach.

I don’t think anything has changed. The forum search engine hasn’t been fit for purpose since our last software replacement in 2013. One of its major flaws is this: if you ask it to display all the posts made by a particular member, it limits itself to the most recent 40 pages or 1000 posts, displayed in a weird inexplicable order. Zmeej, I don’t know how you conducted your search, but as the thread you were trying to find dates back to 2004, I suspect you may have fallen foul of this flaw.

However, it is possible to find older threads and posts if you choose your search terms judiciously. In this case, entering ‘mamelons’ as a keyword and ‘Mosquito’ as the author brings up the relevant thread (and only that thread) straight away. The same is true if the keyword used is ‘Alpine’. If ‘Renault’ is used, 89 threads are displayed, but a scroll through them eventually produces the relevant thread.

I hope this helps.
