That was an interesting watch, thanks for that. I've recently had the dreaded cat efficiency trouble code pop up that seemed to coincide with an increase is oil consumption. He's also bang-on the money - the truck is otherwise mint and flawless despite it's mileage and it seems ridiculous to consign it to the pick-and-pull due to an overpriced engine replacement. I'm going to give their "had good results" ATS stuff a try if I can track it down. I'd moved to 5000 km recently but it sounds like a full synthetic at 8000 km / 5000 miles isn't unwarranted.

I used Mobil One in my '98 Accord V6. I did oil and filter changes at 7500 miles. I sold it with 235k miles. It was always 1/4 quart low at change time. I now have my Dad's '07 Hyundai Sonata V6. He used conventional oil, not sure of change intervals. I switched to Mobil One High Milage, 7500k change interval. It now has 160K miles and still reads full at change time.

Back in the day, I would advise friends to have their oil changed every 3,000 miles.

It was not so much to do with oil life or oil consumption, but simply knowing they never checked the oil level. They never opened their hoods.
