I have a photo from the 12 Hrs Reims 1958 that shows an abandoned sports car next to the long straight of the course. That car had race number 34. Does anybody know what type that car was and who was its driver?

WSR-webside`s list of start numbers is unfortunately not complete.

According to the book "Reims, Champagne, Vitesse et Passion" n.34 was the Alfa Romeo of Georges Houel and Jacques Pages

Hmmm...car looks not like an Alfa. Are you sure the car was in the 1958-edition of that race?

The 1958 12 hrs was for GT cars.  An open sports car probably wouldn't have been eligible.

Requests like this without the photo to view and indeed not much detail are always a challenge.

Check out George Phillips snap on REVS, it might be an easier starting point.

DB-Panhard perhaps?

I can only be sure that the book indicates the number 34 in the Reims 12 Hours 1958 as an Alfa Romeo. If the picture is the one in REVS it doesn't look like one, I agree. Not sure either whether it is a DB. If that's the case the only one entered in the 12 Hours with number 34 was in the 1953  edition (again according to the book).

The car on the Rev's pic rather looks like the Osca of Luigi Piotti at the Coupe Internationale de Vitesse, an F2 race the same week-end of the 12 hours.

It is possible to see a single-seater at the side of the Osca.

Thanks folks! I now truly believe that the car was an OSCA. But it was not entered in the F1 race. No #34 was in the F1 event for the 250F of Fangio.

A Record of Grand Prix and Voiturette Racing, Volume 6 1954-1959 has for the II Coupe International de Vitesse at Reims on 6 July 1958 under no. 34 Jo Fast with his OSCA s/n 1191.

My source was "Reims, Champagne, Vitesse et Passion", too, and I read the wrong line, my bad. That book has John Fast as driver of #34 Osca.

Of course, Jon Fast (yes, the book incorrectly calls him John). There's an old thread about him:
