tl;DR

Not pleased with how Ben Sulayem is running the joint. Won’t support him in reelection.

Strong armed into signing an additional confidentiality agreement under threat of banishment.  Denied admittance to a meeting to voice opposition to the new rule for not signing an agreement they see in contravention to bylaws.  Suing as they think the covenant violates current FIA bylaws.  Now everything around topics from the FIA to the clubs is considered confidential with the FIA having the sole authority with no due process or recourse from the clubs to punish those they see as violators.

https://beyondthefla...med-ben-sulayem

If only they could have known that someone from an authoritarian monarchy (and functionally a theocracy under the guise of a constitution) that rules by fiat would behave in this manner.  Shocked I tell ya.  Shocked.

Well said, exactly. When MBS eventually gets overthrown, and he will eventually be because he’s just not half as smart as he thinks he is, it will be beautiful. Todt was incredibly intelligent but he still was no Mosley. MBS is no Todt.

It helped that Todt and Mosley had good relationships with both Ecclestone and most of the teams.  They were all from the “hey let’s all milk this cow” school of thought.  Ben Sulayem is from the “my cow, don't touch” regime. Gotta play along to get along and he’s not playing along.

As in most industries, all parties need to 'play the game'.

MBS clearly isn't, wether thats to benefit or harm is up to us all to decide....

Its a tricky one. Personallly I dont agree but i'm also good at playing the devils advocate...

I distinctly remember Motorsport UK supported Ben Sulayem against Graham Stoker, when perhaps most people would have expected the British motorsport association to support the British candidate.

That decision has aged badly for Richards.

I distinctly remember Motorsport UK supported Ben Sulayem against Graham Stoker, when perhaps most people would have expected the British motorsport association to support the British candidate.

That decision has aged badly for Richards.

According to the statement, the reasoning behind that decision was as follows:

“Many of you were possibly surprised that we didn't support the British candidate, Graham Stoker, but the [Motorsport UK] board met with both candidate teams and was convinced by the well thought out plans that Mohammed's campaign team presented, which very much aligned with our own views of the way the FIA should transform itself.

“The key messages in their presentation were: A hands-off president who would be non-executive and delegate the day-to-day running of the FlA to a professional executive team.

“The appointment of an empowered and capable CEO to run the FIA to professional standards.

“Full transparency of actions and the highest standards of sporting governance.”

From that, it appears that Motorsport UK made the mistake of believing what MBS had to say and believing that he was committed to those promises. Clearly none of those three things have happened, in fact we've had the opposite of each promise.

Good on Mr. Richards and Motorsport UK for now taking on MBS and his version of the FIA.

That's a credit to British people and their culture though, the most fairest regime on the planet.

They made a mistake though for not being streetwise enough and believing Mohammed and his word.

What is really shocking is that you are still labouring under the misapprehension that he is from Saudi Arabia.

Are you on the UAE Chamber of Commerce or something?

It's like a non stop promo  !!!

Anyway....

If ANYONE ever personified the phrase ALL HAT AND NO CATTLE it's this Joker.

His supposedly "hands-off president" trope actually meant Keep YOUR damn hands off my presidency.

That and him sucking up to Schithead at the Miami GP made me vomit.

Getting a nationality right isn't very hard, is it?  Even a Canadian like yourself should understand that.

Of course, lumping people of a particular ethnicity together and making stereotypical comments about them is fine.

The only person who mentioned Saudi Arabia here was you. The statement made by loki was correct. The UAE is described by Wikipedia as 'an authoritarian federal monarchy ... [and] ... has been described as a "tribal autocracy" where the seven constituent monarchies are led by tribal rulers in an autocratic fashion. There are no democratically elected institutions, and there is no formal commitment to free speech.'

That is however peripheral to the matter in hand. Please stay on topic.

An odd comment?  He is 72 yo sand still very active in motorsport governance  through MS-UK and in motorsport action through Prodrive.  Just because you aren't on his Christmas card list doesn't mean he is dead!

It's possible I got him mixed up with Tom Walkinshaw or maybe someone else. But he definitely always had the vibes of someone who would die of a heart attack in his 60s.
