German car and motorcycle racers Ralph Roese and Heinz Müller, along with two other colleagues, lost their lives in a huge road accident which happened on 08 February 1950, while traveling on what is now the A3 Autobahn, towards Muggensturm near Rastatt to the production facility of the Veritas racing cars, to test new racing cars.
Near the Neuwied/Dierdorf crossing, the driver of another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, lost control in a construction site and crashed head-on with the car of the four. The gasoline canisters they were carrying caught fire and all of them were burned to death.
In 1951 a memorial stone was unveiled at the accident site, in honor of Ralph Roese and Paul Heinrich (Heinz) Müller.
In the 1990s, the monument was moved due to the construction of the A3 Motorway.
But it is not clear where it is actually located. Different accounts indicate it is situated along the A3 Motorway.
Do you know the exact location of the memorial stone?
