ITV is running a new dramatisation of the trial of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Great Britain. She was intimately involved with up and coming racing driver David Blakeley, whom she ultimately shot dead.
I was interested to watch this having enjoyed the film about her titled 'Dance with a Stranger', some years ago.
The emphasis is very different this time with a strong focus on the murder case itself. However, I was put off quite quickly by the very poor choice of the cars.
Bearing in mind Blakeley was shot in 1955, the researchers could have done better than give him an (replica) Aston DBR1 to drive. Furthermore, there is a scene of a race meeting in Surrey which is shot on a beach (!) and is full of much later cars including some with most inappropriate modern roll over bars fitted! Overall, very poor research and why come up with a fictitious venue when Goodwood would have been a far more likely place.
I switched off.
